This was THE BEST. To put things in perspective, the city actually mandated that the festival shut down for 4 hours this day (Saturday May 25) due to lightning, high winds, dangerous torrential downpour. The fest reopened for Richie to play from about 10:15pm to past midnight. Detroit's curfew has typically not permitted for music to go past 12, but the old gods were smiling on us this evening as Richie played damn near close to 12:20am. After not being able to hear music for hours, this was nothing short of magical. And then I went to go see him play for 2 more hours at his afterparty at the Russell ❤

Thanks for this - I liked your comment about the inability to capture the texture etc, because that's such an apt way to describe his sets...so many layers of percussion, very hard to pick up with live recording...with a phone lol. Awesome nonetheless!

He and most people on his team really don't like cameras and recording events for the most part. To them it is something that should really be experienced live, and I can't argue with their vision about that. It was a great experience live. Just wanted to try and bring it to some people who didnt have the chance.

@@TomLube I highly agree, but its not like hes going to be around forever, documenting his sets before he retires is something everyone could appreciate so he could live on forever for people to experience. Plus all the technology now adays they can probably make some really good video sets with multiple angles etc. Just wish they would is all.. like you said not everyone has the chance.
