I don’t like how people are using “egg donor” in that sense. Real egg donors are people who went through some hardcore meds and invasive medical procedures to selflessly give someone else the child they’ve dreamed of. They shouldn’t be conflated with deadbeats.

OP's egg donor saw the dollar sign on his father after he came back so she's sticking to him like a barnacle. She's not gonna go away unless another way bigger and smellier sh*t hits the fan. The kid is her meal ticket. She's pissed that OP did not serve his purpose so she made sure she have a back up baby. Notice how OP' did not mention anything about them getting married? This type of people always show their true colors eventually so OP's dad might be getting cautious, as he should be. LOL

I grew up with a very similar situation. My mother was young and very similar to yours, my dad “disappeared” and my maternal grandparents raised me. I’m now in my 50’s and my mother hasn’t changed. My grandparents did the best they could, but the older I got, the better I was to see that they had their issues too. After earning a masters degree in psychology and having children of my own, I had a better understanding of how my mother turned out the way she did. My story hasn’t gone as well as yours in terms of having relatives who care for/about me, however, I’d encourage you to continue listening to your instincts about your mother-Based on the relationship you have with your father and little sister, I’d do my best to “be cordial” with her, but maintain VERY clearly defined boundaries with her. Give her as little information about you/your personal life as possible… And if you see abuse, don’t confront her, but document it and report it. Praying for you and your family…

@@spacemushh2771 Idk man, try to keep in contact maybe. It's really not that hard to get your child's phone number, or at the very least (in this case) the grandparents' phone numbers, and call them every few weeks or so to just chat. Dude was basically a disney dad taken to the extreme, who maybe cared about his child, but throughout those 16 years barely did anything to actually show it. Actions speak better than words - he may say he loves OP, but at the end of the day even something as simple and obvious as texting or calling his own child and his child's grandparents every once in a while was too much to ask of him for all those 16 years. The first few years I can excuse - he was young. But all those 16 years? You're telling me he "loved" his son so much that all this time he couldn't even bother to at least text his son once a month to ask how his day was?

I don’t think the dad ever actually cared about OP. Mom openly hated him but his dad left and didn’t look back other than when he felt alone. The fact that they got back together shows that the mom and dad never changed and weren’t trying to change. Now the dad is trying to be better but he should have used his mind and been around once a week or month growing up rather than abandon you. If he had all the time to go to partys then he had the time to visit. Like WTF. They wanted a chore doer and babysitter.

If I was his grandmother, I’d not only tell the father to visit my grandchild more often, I’d make my daughter level the ground in the yard every time she behaved like that to her son. THAT or I’d give her the same treatment she gives him and ask her how she feels about that. It’s a hard situation, but NONE of my children will EVER be allowed to treat their family members that way regardless of the situation. She wants to act like a child, she’ll be disciplined like one until she decides to act like an adult.

I actually don’t think any party is the asshole. Having a kid young and ending up single is no joke. I feel we do not have enough information about any of the people in the situation. If your mom was able to have the same situation as your father I think she would likely have been the same way. Having to be surrounded by a child you gave up would be miserable and depressing. I am genuinely surprised postpartum didn’t put her in a psych ward it can be really serious… sure she could have made different choices and treated you better but I don’t think it’s fair to act like the dad is the good guy when he got to act like his son was given up for adoption and move on with his life. His mother did not get the same chance, not to mention she was a child going through postpartum. Honestly I think you’re the asshole for not blaming your dad for putting your mother in the situation in the first place. If you were given up for adoption as she wanted you probably would’ve had a completely different life and been able to come back to them as an adult.

Fathers often feel that their main purpose is to provide materially for their children. So I kind of understand why the dad would think he was doing his best by being intermittently visiting Disneyland Dad while sending support money, especially when he saw how well his son was doing with the grandparents. Too bad OP didn’t feel comfortable communicating to his father how lousy his mother was. He doesn’t need to worry that his “mother” will poison his sister’s mind against him-his actions will speak louder than their egg donor’s words. A bigger concern would be if she decides to move away with the little girl just out of spite to punish her son and his father for being more favored by everybody than she is. However, she sounds too lazy to bother with that. I don’t have a mother like this, but I do have nieces who would understand OP’s plight, and I was very involved with them while they were children, so being a toothless parent figure is very familiar. If I could talk to the young man, I could only say, Good Luck.

He should definitely stay with the grandparents. Hopefully after the baby is born they'll be distracted carrying for the baby. I think it would be hard to finish the last two years of high-school in that mess.

My feeling is this mom won't hang around long after daughter is born.. Changing dirty diapers, getting up several times a night with a crying baby, and not having any free time to hang with friends or get her nails done; will prove to be to much.. Luckily I think the dad will try to make up for not being there for his first child, and be a good dad.. OP will be a great big brother though.. I knew a girl who got pregnant at 16, and grandma raised the son as her own: although he knew who mom was.. She lived in same 3 br house for 3yrs, and treated her son like a brother.. She eventually got married and started having her son for weekend visits when he was about 6.. At age 8, he went to live with her.. Although it about killed grandma, she wanted him to have a real & dad: plus grandma had spoiled this child so badly, it was crazy..

I don’t blame you for not wanting to move back in with your biological parents. Your real parents are your grandparents. They were the ones who the parents who were always there for you in good, neutral and bad times. They supported and loved you the entire time. It’s good that your father eventually saw the hurt he caused you and tried to make amends. Sadly, I don’t think your egg donor will ever truly understand what she did was wrong. I think you will always be the bigger adult than she will ever be or can even aspire to be. If you’re allowed to spend quality time with your little sister, she will be able to see your light shine through no matter what your egg donor says to her. I’m sure your biological father will try to make sure that you and your sister are able to be together on a regular basis, with or without your egg donor.

Yeah i feel like OPs being a bit of an ass towards his dad when dad first got home. his mother didnt try *at all* and emotionally/verbally abused OP so she can rot for all i care. Sounds like OP's dads parents forced the dad to move away for school, convincing the dad that going away now would benefit OP later. doesnt seem like OPs dad had much of a choice in it. Also if OPs dad could only visit twice a year. he was likely a great distance away. making traveling like that costly and likely something a collage student couldn't afford to do more regularly. He should have Texted and called more (definitely!) but no one is perfect. On OP having seen a collage student going out and partying, god forbid dad lives his life a little while hours away and likely stressing TF out. parents unfortunately are people too and the dad was likely HOURS away in a bubble where he seems to have thought his ex GF was taking good care of his son. (he obviously could have and should have done better.) OP's stated he has been very reluctant to join his fathers side of the family (who has invited op multiple times to join them for holidays and birthday parties) and then blames his own reluctance to join them or see them as family on his mostly MIA dad. something i think is unfair. OP is feeling like hes a stranger to that side of the family but has done nothing of his own to reach out or accept their invitations and join them. its kind of like those people who stop texting first and then are shocked when 90% of people have lives away from their phones and take days to respond sometimes. i think this whole issue is "young and dumb" both on OP and his dad. OP had his chances to join his fathers side of the family and make them into family not strangers. (OP could have texted or called too once old enough. for as much as that would suck to have to be the first to call but at least he got to talk with his dad. who then may have wanted to call more often as a result knowing the line of communication is now open on OPs side.) OP is doing the same thing he perceives as what his dad did to him years ago and sees no fault in it, likely bc OPs only 16 and doesnt quite grasp the reality of long distance and still wanting to be yourself after having your teen years ripped from you as a child. **TLDR:** i think both OP and the father suffer from the saying "young and dumb". Dad didnt reach out as often as he could have but through his actions still tried. OP has been pushing his dads side away and has rejected his father when his father returned. Ultimately the grandparents are saints, the mom is a complete piece of shit and im worried about the new baby, the dads NTA but kinda shitty and the same goes for OP. im sure in time though OP will see his dad tried the best he could with what he had to get done and things will right themselves. OPs dad loves him and with time OP will see that though his dads future actions (hopefully! lol). that process has already began as of the last update though! so im hopeful things will get better for both dad and son :)

Thank you for saying this 💯 if someone does you wrong (parents included, because they are people too) and they are truly contrite and showing it with their actions, you are also accountable for whether you accept or reject. Too many people want to continue to punish folks who are trying to right their wrongs.

It's stuff like this that makes me realize that I was lucky. Like OP, I was also an accident, but by some miracle both my parents cared about me despite splitting up. Grew up with my dad having sole custody. He, and by extension me, lived with my grandparents who were like a 2nd set of parents to me. He wasn't the best dad, had a lot of anger issues and was hurt by some stuff my mom did and for a while I took the brunt of that, but he still tried to do his damn best. When I say anger issues I don't mean I got hit or beat up or anything like that. It took me until I was about 17 and a half to 18 until I felt comfortable around him, but I've always seen him as a dad and I've been proud to be his son. My dad had me visit my mom every other weekend because "every child deserves to have both parents" despite having full custody, so I've gotten the chance to get to know her. Didn't realize it as a little kid but I do now looking back on it, but she tried to use me as a way to get back at him. Even so, I still felt cared for and loved. All in all, given how things are now, I'd say I'm pretty lucky and I wish OP had been given the same chance I was
