Nortons Boss 😎 loving my 75 Roadster The rumble lives on 👊

When I was a teenager in 1971, there was a Norton 750cc roaming around in Three Rivers, Quebec, sounding better than the BSA and Triumph Bonneville. It was, and still is, the nicest mechanical sound I had ever heard. What made Norton's sound so unique ?
@RetroRidingEveryday Жыл бұрын
Honestly I don't know but I can confirm that 10 years ago I bought this '69 750 Commando for the unique sound and for the iconic style. I discovered then that riding it it's an emotional experience and a joy, which let you forget some fragility and issues (nothing dramatic but it requires frequent care). anti pollution laws in Europe put at risk the possibilities to continue to use it in the future, this is the real question mark... 🤔

I had a '69 Commando "S" back in 1970, damn, sounded just like that...I liked to hold my hand just behind the "peashooter" muffler and feel the idle pulses slap the palm of my hand.
@RetroRidingEveryday3 жыл бұрын
Yes, sometimes I do the same 😁... Quite impressive the slaps that come at each engine impulse!

Better still, wait for someone to stand behind you when you kick her into life. (let someone else experience the peashooter effect)

Bit of smoke out left bank on throttle blip. Had this on my '74 850 Commando. Checked the very small drain hole in the intake rock box floor, right side, halfway covered by the valve spring base cup. Had to poke some thin wire down it all the way to the timing chest 90 degree bend then follow with strong blast of WD40 etc to fully clear it so oil would flow out from rocker box faster. Still got a little smoke and ultimately found a crumbling valve stem oil seal on that left side intake. renewed with modern KibbleWhite Viton rubber seals all valves (without taking head off bike) and all smoking has stopped.

Thank you for your suggestions. I will tell my mechanic to proceed this way.

😂 why not? In Milano in few years it will be hard to ride it, because of bans on polluting vehicles.

You sure it’s a 69, what with the disc brake?
@RetroRidingEveryday3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's written in the official documents and everything match with the records of the Norton owners club in the UK which I've consulted (they keep the records of all Commandos produced and sold). The disc brake has been added later, I think when Norton mounted it ex factory in the later versions It's an original Lockheed, many owners at the time did this upgrade because of course the brake performance with the disc was much effective than with the drum.

@@RetroRidingEveryday Ahh, that makes sense. The bike looks and sounds really great. Nice job.

No disc on a 1969 Commando & also no indicators....
@RetroRidingEveryday8 ай бұрын
Right, the brake had been changed by one of the previous owners. The particularity oh this bike is that it has always been circulating. The owner of early 70's, when Norton made available the Lockheed unit for replacing the drum, decided to mount it (as many Commando's owner). It's the same unit Norton equipped new models from 1971 or 1972. The indicators were added by myself, for security reasons (I live in a big city), but they can be removed. The bike has a complete documented history, it was importednew from an Italian Dealer in Padov, Italy (I had the confirmation from Norton records in England) and it has always been circulating here. First document is dated 1969.

Sure, rev it hard for no reason, so now you can make another video repairing it.

If it was the case, what's the problem with you sir?

@@RetroRidingEverydayYou should call your video "this Norton Commando runs in spite of me".
@RetroRidingEveryday8 ай бұрын
@@robertshepherd3832 that Commando runs from 1969 everywhere, in spite of any owner or videomaking needs. Never been unused. Of course I'm not used to rev it like this each time I start up the bike, I only did a couple of times because many viewers asked me many times for the sound. As for the rest, the only thing it needs the bike is a good mechanic, it's always more and more difficult to find one who can put the hands on those 60s motorbikes

When you really know what it costs in time and money and knowledge to rebuild one of these classics, owners usually have compassion for it even though it is just a machine.
