The last of the true Maytags. Nothing to apologize for,....you do us a service and thank you very much for that.
@jhomrich896 жыл бұрын
pat cola not exactly, these were the maytags sold in the big box store, not bad but at this time you could still get the Dependable Care (the real maytags) line through independent dealers like speed queen up until 2006 - 2007 when they were discontinued and taken over by whirlpoop
@patcola73356 жыл бұрын
Oh ok. So what were the differences between this model and a "real" Maytag ? For all intent and purposes these look exactly like the Dependable cares from the porcelain wash basket and load sensing agitator to the internals.
@patcola73356 жыл бұрын
Gotcha. :-)
@doctorfeinstone65246 жыл бұрын
@@jhomrich89 Maytag didn't have independent dealers. They were sold in all stores that did appliances. From furnatire stores to hardware stores to big box stores.

@@doctorfeinstone6524 Yeah the performa line was manufactured by Dependable care.

My grandma gave me her 2001 Maytag Perform washer and dryer, looks just like this one. Was a fantastic set, I wish I'd have kept them. They both worked perfectly and had no problems even at 18 years old. It spun so quietly and smooth, I used it in my third floor apartment and it never transferred vibration to the floor and rarely stopped because it was unbalanced.

The only thing I miss about these “newer” Maytags is the minute long spray rinse the older models had. That made a big difference!
@coolrobuxgaming Жыл бұрын
So you hated these. But these washers definitely didn’t last as long as the direct drives nor did the other GEs.

Found one at our small town dump, the lady dumped because it was smoking lol, belt was slipping because there were mud wasp nests in the motor. The thing runs perfect, now I have two.

Got one of these. Done some work to it over the years. Just cracked open the transmission to replace a gear. Hope it lasts. Design is so straight forward.

Nice wash action on that machine,I will hold out on the thoughts about the suds saver until the results of the next video. I wonder if our Maytag Atlantis from 2005 (I think) can be considered a "Real" Maytag?

My Maytag Atlantis model MAV6548AWW purchased in April 2003 stopped spinning--sounds like it's spinning but doesn't. Is it worth repairing? What to you know about the front loading Maytag 5500? THanks for your videos. I found them fascinating & helpful.

Eugene....This machine has a great rollover.... Plus when it goes in to spin It's like the old machine's that when the tub start's to spin! On the older machine's Eugene do they have a pump to drain or is it gravity?
@Ififitzisitz10 ай бұрын
Every automatic washer ever has used a pump, since it's meant to be installed in front of a "stand pipe" which is usually higher that the top of the tub inside the machine.
@YR7A5 жыл бұрын
it's funny to me to see that modern HE machines basically do the exact same thing as suds saver washers, but just put the water in a little reservoir in the bottom of the machine.

Once again a great video. Nice after wash spin speed. Have always been a fan of the swirl away spin . Noted there was no after wash spin spray rinse. Any reason why Maytag dropped this? Ahh! There is the spray rinse after the rinse. Is the spin RPM slower than the 1970's 1980's Maytag's?
@rmgtnsteele6 жыл бұрын
Interesting.....my LAW9406AAE does a spray rinse before the suds valve is closed along with the spray rinse after the rinse cycle. Mine also has the Load Sensor agitator that only twists the corkscrew portion when necessary.

I have a 2001 Maytag Performa washer & gas dryer that are still working fine. I don't consider them to be vintage. If you want vintage, get a machine with a washboard washer and a hand driven squeeze-roller dryer. I have a table fan that still works fine, that I saw on a web site described as "vintage". What I'm hearing is "they don't make them like they used to" since my stuff all works fine. You should be calling them "quality products" instead of "vintage products".

@petermaz7016 жыл бұрын
Your totally redeemed with this wash load. If I’m not mistaken the Maytag Performa washer was not 100% Maytag it already had some Whirlpool crossover and lower in the line. The Maytag Atlantis was higher in the line and the last of the true Maytag design. By the way let us know how to buy the tee shirt I would gladly buy 2 of them?
@LlyleHunter6 жыл бұрын
Most of the Performa line was actually by Norge. They made the Magic Chef and Jennair machines as well as Montgomery Ward's. This was a real Maytag as can be seen from the transmission and porcelain tub. The Norge machines had plastic tubs. When Whirlpool took over they relabeled their own machines as Maytag Centenials.
@petermaz7016 жыл бұрын
Bruce Solomon I guess I remember reading that this was the end of the Maytag line before Whirlpool completely took over. My friend had this washer it was less expensive than the Maytag Atlantis which was more expensive since I believe it had more options (dispensers and whatnot) and a larger tub.
@petermaz7016 жыл бұрын
Eugene I ordered one large I didn’t see Extra Large. I like tee shirts a little bigger since they shrink and i’m not a spring chicken anymore.
@doctorfeinstone65245 жыл бұрын
Performa washers were actually slightly redesigned amana washers after maytag bought amana. Many enthusiasts dubbed them "amanatags". The Atlantis/ensignia was based on norge designs. This washer in the video is basically a dependable care
