There's a little moment from the manga that got cut out here. When Greed asks where his brother is, Al says that he's not around, and the group misinterprets it as him saying that Ed's dead, and they apologize for bringing it up. Just a little moment to humanize them... ...before next episode.

Austin Palmer I've been waiting for that too, it's fun watching someone really familiar with the old series slowly get more and more lost as the story diverges. I haven't seen a reaction to FMAB like that yet.

Duh, most people forgot the old series even existed and/or they just read the manga. How can you expect such a reaction when there is no reference.

I think Al showed up alone because he didn't think anyone could take him on and wants to see who would try. He gets this threatening note and thinks, "Is someone seriously trying to threaten me, a 7 foot tall suit of armor who can't feel pain?" You can see how smug he is when he first talks to the chimeras, and then how surprised he is when they capture him.

each homunculus has a special power, not necessarily a special material. Greed is only associated with carbon as he has the innate ability to transmute the carbon in his skin to a much harder material. Lust can innately transmute the keratin in her nails to a much sharper substance and quickly grow them to act as long blades. Envy can innately transmute their body into other shapes and materials, but not quite to the same extent as Greed's ultimate shield or Lust's ultimate spear (their abilities are more specialized into a certain type, while Envy covers a broad but shallow spectrum in their shape shifting).

Where does the excess Karatin come from for Lust's super long nails?
@FBI_Metal_Slime6 жыл бұрын
Nails are made of mostly keratin, and it is likely that her philosopher stone produces more and more keratin or what ever it transmutes the keratin into. Remember, philosopher stones don't outright seem equivalent, so producing so much likely costs a few souls.

What I found really upsetting about this episode was the FACT that chimeras already existed ...So what Shou Tucker did to Nina and Alexander was really unnecessary.
@lalalalisa416 жыл бұрын
But the idea of chimeras, whether human based or not, was said to not be done yet until Shou created the "first" one. Here, we see that is false. Even Al pretty much said the same thing about it.
@lalalalisa416 жыл бұрын
Kirito Ω My mistake. Let me clarify. When I said that the fact chimeras already existed, I meant talking chimeras already existed. Yeah, they're human based but they still exist all the same.

Chimera already existed for a long time. It is not known to the world because it is taboo to use humans for experimentation.
@dannybob426 жыл бұрын
What Ticker did to Nina was unnecessary regardless of Greed’s crew, their creation was the inverse of Nina though, giving animal abilities and likeness to humans over giving an animal human abilities such as understanding human speech

Yoki is actually the antagonist in the third chapter of the manga, but it was cut from the anime, which makes his introduction here a bit confusing.
@Warriorcats646 жыл бұрын
No it wasn't, it was a critical episode that also introduced the woman who would become the face of the antagonist.
@42Caio6 жыл бұрын
acrazyutuber13 You are confusing it with the first anime adaptation. Lyla and Dante don't exist in the manga, and also don't exist in this adaptation because it's a faithful adaptation. And thank God for that, Dante is a terrible villain and arguably the major reason FMA2003's quality decays so much towards the end.

They’ll get to the story, the 03 anime changed it a little by adding their own character in to use later

So this episode made it clear that Shou Tucker's experiment with Nina was unneeded. Also it would not have gained him re-certification (his goal and reason for sacrificing his wife and daughter) as the government had already figured out how to make talking Chimeras after he transmuted his wife.
@Ulquiorra1914 жыл бұрын
Those Chimera's are Fathers. He controls the government but he isn't the government. The government officials that give certifications don't know those chimeras exist, and they existed before Tucker.
@Zarola4 жыл бұрын
So Bradley would have approved the certification because he would be playing dumb to the knowledge that they already had working Chimeras? The lower ranks seemed surprised in Dublin, but Bradley wasn't. So I assume the higher brass in charge of putting the seal of approval on State Alchemists would also share that knowledge and consider his "research" redundant and not worth the money to support him. But I can see your point about the working Chimeras being the result of Father, therefore preceding Tucker. Though with that I think he would still get rejected because it proves Father is necessary. It can not be done well without him draining his power (albeit small amounts) for the melding. So Tucker still fails in my head.

Ah the penultimate of the first chapter. Technically a two parter The country is Amestris, it’s based off of Rural Germany, Dublith doesn’t work for that joke XD The Truth in this case is what’s through that doorway, that has all the knowledge in the world. But the entity is also called the Truth. Yoki, Navi pointed out his Wanted Sign in ep 11, he was mentioned in ep. 2 by Hughes. They’ll get to his story, but it’s a long way away. These Chimeras are different to Tucker’s one, see Tucker wanted to make a talking animal, thus putting a human features into an animal. These chimeras put animal features into a person. Stones are not in play for their creation Enter Greed, and the name of the group, Homunculus. Homunculus is an alchemical term for an artificial human, usually depicted as a dwarf or a fetus in a seed-like container, so of course this depiction is different, and have individual abilities on top of healing factors. Ed really picked up Izumi’s temper... Izumi’s wardrobe change is a bit of a continuity error, it’s because in the Manga takes a bit longer since Ed had to report to the South for his annual assessment day (thus why Ed wasn’t there), Izumi and co investigated Al’s absence more too Go to the next one! You won’t believe your eyes over how action packed it is!

Navi, FMB follows the manga very closely, when the first show came out it overtook the manga story that the author had planned out for it, but show continued with author's blessing and so it diverged from the author original vision.
@KelseyODonnell176 жыл бұрын
There is a back story about Yoki and the Elric Brothers that you'll learn at some point. It's in the manga and isn't really necessary to this plot, but they'll touch on it.

Navi's smile @ 1:18, lol. And her reactions at the end when she interrupted Chris too. Too adorable. Poor her though; I think she believes a certain plot point from the original is the same in brotherhood and she was smiling about it when it was partially brought up.
@MARYWTHER6 жыл бұрын
It's kinda brought by FMAB (for like two seconds and you can't really understand all the story) but it's explained better on 03FMA, but the chimeras were wounded soldiers from the Ishvalan war, they were declared dead to their families and the State experimented on them. So yeah, they didn't care about Shou Tucker so lead him to believe that what he was doing as experiments were importants, when in the end, they were way more advanced that whatever he did with Nina (and if you think about it, had Nina been correctly transmuted, she could have had a "decent life" like these chimeras have)...
@Raidanzoup6 жыл бұрын
Isn't it like a thing that we're all carbon based lifeforms, and that dense carbon is really hard as opposed to loose carbon? (Superman crushing coal into a diamond.) So, like, Greed's power being that he becomes solid and unbreakable (through transmutation, I guess) can be negated by knowing that homonculi are "like humans" because you can use alchemy to adjust the makeup of the carbon in his body to negate his ability. It feels weird to articulate my thoughts on this having stuck with the same read of the matchup for like thirteen years or so
@houseofaction6 жыл бұрын
they are not "like human" they are 100% human , they are just artificially made
@Raidanzoup6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, sure. I was paraphrasing since Greed mentions what sets him apart from people is the shield+regen combo.
@borjankosarac36456 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that point kind of flew over their heads - they thought Greed was talking about himself specifically, rather than Homunculi as a whole. Of course, so long as one can say they are an artificial human(oid) created through science, the term homunculus is technically accurate here...
