FYI, whenever someone dies in a volume of the manga, there is a little "in memoriam" cartoon at the end of the volume showing whoever died going up into heaven. Nina, Alexander, the boys' mom, even villains like Father Cornello all sprout wings and float up into the sky. All except Shou Tucker- he's the only one ever shown to be burning in hell.

Of course it's based on emotion. He did not "just" kill a little girl. He killed HIS little girl, which is even worse emotionally. You don't expect better from someone like Envy; he's an inhuman creation, why should he care about a stranger, or show empathy to another species? You definitely expect better from a 100% human father. Even villains can have loved ones, Shou Tucker doesn't.

@@SuperAdam2468 The entire early run of the original was better up to Hughes, actually going by memory the whole thing, especially the Wrath reveal, was way better in the original. I tried watching it again recently and while the spirit is still there, the animation and pacing don't hold up to modern standards. Brotherhood is objectively better, but yeah the impact of many events in the original hit harder and better.

So, to clear some things up. Human transmutation is forbidden in the alchemy world because nobody has deemed how much a "soul" is worth. So the whole equivalent exchange thing is an unknown because how do you figure out what is equivalent to a soul. As you can see, even Al's whole body and Elric's arm and leg still isn't worth a soul. Secondly, the people who research chimeras, what they do is try and use alchemy to splice animals together. What was revolutionary about that guy is he somehow made a chimera (which in the law is ONLY supposed to be animals together) so smart as to understand human speech. What Elric was saying is that it's a lot easier to make these impressive "chimeras" when you start with a human instead of using only animals.

You know, a lot of people find this more emotional in the original series, but I just don't agree. True, Nina wasn't around very long, but her impact is still felt here. I've seen this episode many times and it always makes me get that sick feeling in my stomach.

Walter White lust is essentially a different character with a different role in the 2003 series. It's not fair to compare them. Her character simply was not as much part of the focus this time around. In contrast, I feel like characters like Hawkeye, Dr Marcoh, Greed, Kimblee, and Scar all get much more interesting arcs in this version.
@Lady_Yunalesca7 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind, I saw the original before Brotherhood, or before I read the manga. Even then, I found the way it portrayed Nina to be flawed. Even here we get more of an idea of her personality - she's strong willed, but also lonely, and it's something Ed and Al can relate to. In the original version she's a sweet girl and it's implied she's a bit lonely, but for all the more screentime it gives her, it doesn't feel like it gives her much more personality beyond 'cute little girl'. While the 2003 version isn't bad - and when I saw it the first time it emotionally effected me a lot - things like the whole "magic flowers" bit felt like they were there just to make us feel sadder when the inevitable happened. A few moments of this I can deal with, but an entire extra episode of 'nina doing adorable things' to make the inevitable sadder? It felt emotionally manipulative, and that's one of the issues I had with the 2003 series as a whole, even my first time through. So much of it felt like it was done purely for the sake of drama, rather than as something that came naturally to the story. Again, that's just how I felt, and I'm not saying it was done badly. I just prefer how it is done here.
@xhielorei7 жыл бұрын
both versions feel kinda the same to me. the only death that will always affect me more in the first anime than in brotherhood is the one killed by envy. It's the 3 restriction of *State* Alchemist. 1) Obey the Military, 2) Do not create Gold, 3) Do not create Humans. There's technically not legal restriction aside from 2 & 3 for non-state Alchemist. What happen to the Brothers are more payment for taking a peek into 'Truth' than punishment of the human transmutation itself. But since peeking into 'Truth' happens only with human transmutation, the technicality makes little difference. The payment are also catered to the individual deep seeded desires.

Human transmutation is forbidden in the show because it hasn't been done successfully ( examples are the mom, the limbs, and illegal experimentations like the Chimera ). Technically Shou Tucker isn't wrong. Whay they both did is a transgression of the human trasmutation crime. It's much like human clonation in real life, any alchemy experiment on humans is forbidden. Obviously the motives were completely different, and that's partly the reason why the Elric brothers aren't in jail and are even state alchemists. The show will explain that more in depth later on, therefore I won't spoil.

the state alchemist who died t the beginning of the episode should not dead that way. He's in Ishval war and he's quite an alchemist. he died because he was drunk when Scar attacked him. Arakawa drew it, very silly but I like that scenario better. It is not as if not only the main characters are the strong one, but others too.
