The whole Ed turning himself into a Philospher’s stone thing is a different application of what he did after he got impaled during his fight with Kimblee up North. That’s when he thought of using his own life as one soul worth of a Stone. In this instance he used it again to give Pride a second chance at life, since he won’t have the memories or the goals of the previous version. Once Pride’s stone was used up he would’ve withered away like Envy did in his little “baby” form.

Edward refused to kill even against a homunculus and that's why kimblee respects Ed so much because no matter what he stays true to his ideals, even when he was impaled and at death doors he refused to use a philosofer stone to save himself. Wrath was so freacking powerfull that Scar was no match for him even when he was full of wounds like the only reason Scar won was pure luck, i'm not sure if this is official but i heard a comment from the mangaka of the series (the creator of the show) that if Bradly was in his prime then it would have been impossible to beat him, like she had to make him old so that his defeath wouldn't be an ass pull.

Id like to point out that in the flashback ep to the Ishvalan War of Extermination, Bradley says something along the lines of to "if you wish to see me stuck down do it yourself, not the name of your god." to the high priest, and then here the light from the eclipse is what blinds Bradley allowing Scar to strike the final blow, and an eclipse represents a perfect being, or god. Arakawa is such a great writer.
@Xeno455
@Xeno455 2 жыл бұрын
Not an eclipse. The sun represents a perfect being. Which peaked from behind the moon to blind him. Mostly semantics but a slight correction. The eclipse represented covering God. The tablet in xerxes roughly translates to "I will strike down God and become perfect", if you remember that scene.

The most badass moment was definitely King Bradley fighting to the very end, which represents his human side (he is after all a human-based homonculus). And yeah, both of you caught the reference of the irony of Wrath being defeated due to "an act of God" when he denied the very existence of God.

So, basically, Kimbley was such a twisted psychotic monster, that his soul was literally too evil to be assimilated into Pride's body alongside the other souls. Freaking legend.
@mbpoblet
@mbpoblet 2 жыл бұрын
Nah, as monstrous as he was Kimblee did have his own twisted set of principles, and he respected people who followed _their_ principles and despised those who did not. Pride's only principle was, well, his _pride,_ to start with... and when he didn't even respect _that_ (by lowering himself to attempting to take Ed's body), Kimblee lost any shadow of respect he might have still held for Pride, and revolted. (And it's not the first time we see an exceptionally determined soul within a homunculus revolt, Ling did the same, occasionally, and while he can be called a lot of things "psychotic monster" probably isn't one of them.)

With Wrath and Mrs. Bradley, it's worth mentioning that when he says that they have nothing to say to each other, its because its a mutual understanding. She married a soldier/ Military leader who could have easily died in combat/ be assassinated etc. Leaving anything unsaid would be pointless. Also, Pride's true form being a baby/fetus is because Edward 'made him small' or because of the phrase 'a child is your pride and joy'.

The "intro" to this episode is great, if you can even call it an intro. Everyone is dead and things seem hopeless, and the lack of an intro cinematic or even the music until everyone is revived feels pretty meaningful. It really feels like Father has won until the tides change and the music finally kicks in.

I think Ed turning into a philosopher's stone might be an extension of what he did when he was wounded in the snow, when he was able to treat himself as a philosopher's stone for the purposes of healing. Based on the same principle he could extend his soul into the space inside Pride as he did. That's my guess anyway.

The symbolism in Wrath's death was already mentioned by other people in the comments; so lets talk a little about Pride. He threw away his pride and tried to take over a body he considered inferior to his own; for the sake of survival. As a result, Kimblee (who despises hypocrites), intervened and gave Ed an opening out of spite. And with the state Pride was left in, you can say that Ed literally made him small.

I've been waiting for this episode. Wrath finally goes down, and the biggest threat to the humans is finlly out of commission. The creator of Fullmetal Alchemist actually said in an interview once that the only reason the protagonists are able to succeed is because of how old Wrath was when the Promised Day arrived. If they had fought Wrath in his prime, he would have slaughtered every single one of them, and the homunculi would have completely succeeded. Wrath was a hardened badass through and through.

There are many philosophic metaphor in this serious series and for every homunculus. For example, deep inside the invincible Pride is just a baby smaller than anyone else; As Greed who only looking for 1 thing; Lust know as "Strongest spear", showing her strength rather than her beauty; Gluttony never did unnecessary eating and can control himself under Lust's command; Wrath is always showing his kindness to everyone else (colleagues) as a good president (actually over the all episodes he was being a good president); Wrath is extremely gentle to his families; Envy is actually ugly in appearance no matter who he turned into (envy is ugly;) Showing envy actually reflect someone hoped for something. Sloth work all the time year in years non-stop; Not to mention cost people being taken to pay the price for things they wanted from the Gate; Scar hated the entire Amesutorisu who eventually save all of them; At the end Edward gave up his alchemy, alchemy being the most important power in the entire series but by giving up all of alchemy power, he had beaten the God from its control.

i feel like the ed turning himself into a philosopher's stone is actually a very simple thing that any alchemist skilled enough could do, it's just not very useful for yourself. a philosopher's stone is just a condensed human soul after all, but in that form you're just a very pretty rock. it's only useful in this case because the insides of a homunculus is a place where souls can manifest without a body. it'd be like purposefully knocking yourself out to go a few rounds with freddy. not very useful outside this specific context

SUCH A GOOD EPISODE! - For Ed "turning himself into a philosopher's stone", think of it like this: since the stones are just made up of human souls, every human more-or-less has a philosopher's stone inside them with the power of one soul (their own). Ed was a skilled enough alchemist that he can harness that stone if need be. It's the same thing he did when he got impaled up north in the fight with Kimblee, where he used up some of his soul's energy in order to do medical alchemy to stop the bleeding. - As best as I can tell, Ed destroyed the stone powering Pride but, since he doesn't kill, left the original soul inside him, so now he's just the regular human that we can assume was used to make the homunculus (like how Ling was used to make Greed) at the very beginning of its life. So, essentially, "I'm baby" -- Pride - Scar's whole arc is perfect. He started out being controlled by his own wrath due to the Ishvalans being slaughtered by the Amestrians, only changing course when Winry's mercy shakes him to his core. After that, he worked to defeat his hatred and no longer give in to anger because of how destructive it was. And now... he literally defeated Wrath and saved the lives of every Amestrian. And THAT is how you write a goddamn character arc. - Kimblee basically was already dead since he was made into a stone and assimilated into Pride. Since he's such a force of nature, though, he managed to keep his sense of self despite being in a stone. He had nothing really to do any more, though, so you can sort of see why he'd be cool letting his own container, Pride, get defeated. After all, it's not like he's coming back to life, and Pride was being a hypocrite, which Kimblee hates, so I guess he figured he might as well go out with a bang by calling out Pride for being a cowardly little shit. Such a fucking maniac, haha.

I think what happened there is that Ed turned his own soul into a philosopher stone because the stone is literally made of souls, then he killed all pride souls and leave only one soul, making pride basically human the same way Bradley had only one soul and could age because of that. The problem is the same as Bradley explains to Mustang. What if pride soul os not really prides. What if the soul left is actually Kimble soul lol.
