171QA: Whyever wouldn't he? Greed demands the finer things in life, and there is NOTHING finer than a woman by your side who can kick ass with you at such a high degree of skill. Add to that the fact that she cut her own arm off to use as a decoy to save him, despite what it must mean given that her grandfather slapped her for losing it, and you have someone who is indeed a cut above all the rest. It was never actually mentioned in the series, but Ling was hinted to become the next emperor of Xing, and the Emperor has a wife from every clan as part of the tradition. Regardless of how humble she is regarding such, Lan Fan is the best choice from the Yao clan and Ling's devotion to her when she was injured and after when he accepted Greed goes far beyond simple romantic interest. It would be hard to find a better choice.

found the original version on why he is made. Dante made Gluttony with the intent of having him consume red water and human flesh and allowing it to condense into a Philosopher's Stone inside his body, thus bypassing the need for alchemy and the risks that came with it. (This is also why she made him such a simpleton and made it possible to take his mind away; such a tool doesn't need intellectual depth, it just needs to be hungry.)

Gluttony is childlike, Envy is jealous of humanity, Wrath is charming and personable, Sloth's every movement an thought causes him pain, Pride IS a child, Lust is caring, and Greed's actions speak for themselves.

However badass it was to see Lan Fan and Ling again, yeah, it was actually hard to watch, seeing him butchered repeatedly. The only thing that drives Gluttony forward is hunger, meaning he has almost no inteligence and is resembling a child or a mentally retarded person, so watching him suffer is kind of "ehh" in the eyes of some people I would guess. I mean - if he just died right away, then ok, but no, his powers mean he needs to get gutted gazilion times before it's over. Then again, having no intelligence, sense of compassion and bottomless stomach makes him a friggin' immortal canibal who wouldn't flinch when eating innocent people alive, so I guess it evens out. For me, he was the most tragic homunculus. The most repulsive without even knowing it.
