Overall both series are great but the ending of brotherhood is 1000x more satisfying than the original.

Ofcourse , I personally feel that it`s more important for an Adaptatation to capture the nuances and emotional beats of The Source Material more than The Main Plot ! And , The 2003 Anime captured those nuances and emotional beats far better than Brotherhood IMHO ! The thing about Brotherhood is it`s rushed all to Hell ! It`s like slapstick , action , emotional moment , slapstick , action , emotional moment , slapstick , action , action , action , action ! You can barely keep up !

Maybe it was how it strayed heavily from it's source material but then again, I can see why people love the 2003 version. Also, I was very young when the original came out so that might explain why I never saw it but I had first heard about it through a trading card game.

When you watch The 2003 Anime , pay close attention to every Episode and you will see exactly why Brotherhood is the inferior product !

I enjoyed elements of Brotherhood . I loved Ling , Lan Fan , Fu , Olivier , Grumman , Buccaneer , Kimblee , McDougal and the action scenes . However , the excellent English Dub Voice Acting , emotional depth and deep philosophical themes that The 2003 Anime had just weren`t there , atleast not enough and not in any particularly meaningful way ! Also , Brotherhood may have been truer to the Main Plot of The Manga but The 2003 Anime was truer to the Individual Storyarcs in many cases !

**Spoilers possibly** I HATED Fullmetal Alchemist's 2003 anime ending SO MUCH that I went out and bought all the manga to see how it ended and I got all mad, and then I cried, cause I love EdWin xD I still haven't finished brotherhood, because I already know whats gonna happen :P IM TRYING REALLY HARD TO THOUGH. xD Its my favorite anime right next to Soul Eater and Ouran Host Club ^^
