I was hardcore skater late 70s. Got some intel on some massive pipes at a nuclear plant under construction. Only ridden 1/2 pipes until then. Found them laid in sections ranging from 20 -35 ft. Full pipes alien to us and above vert we were all wiping out. Incredible speed and fun while they lasted.

I skated Baldy (quite) a few years ago and it was the highlight of my skateboarding life. For a guy from the UK it was quite a trip, but I went, rode it probably not very well, but loved it. To this day the scariest place I've ever ridden.

Wouldn't it be 'the bomb' to have one of these full-pipe segments parked in your back yard? Ha ha :) Man, I'm thanking God I found this playlist for Jeff Grosso's Love Letters to Skateboarding, they're so intuitive and straight-up - Thank you Jeff !!! {may you RIP}. My skating days were from the early/mid 70's to the early 80's --- living the evolution of the hey-day's of skateboarding was an odyssey that I will cherish in my memory (and heart) for all time... for sure!

First time I have heard Muck mentioned. He was ground zero when it comes to the Badlands. He was older than all the other skaters and used to drive them (Buddy Aldred, Mike Cantu, Lee Gahimer and Tay Hunt) in his van. Steve was a little younger than all those guys, but he was there at the beginning. Thanks Steve for keeping the history of the Badlands alive.

In Northridge California after the earthquake I was working at the apartment complex called Wood ridge apartments on 19540 Plummer Street. The owner, “Beverly Jones” told me that there were skateboarders sneaking in using the pool. I was totally stoked. Then she told me I need to tell them to leave the next time they show up. Well, when I looked out and seen Alba out there doing an interview, I laughed hysterically and sit down and listen to from a distance. There was no way in the world I was going to kick out one of my idols LOL that being said! #PleaseCarryOn. Needless to say that was a spot that I continued to skate until they decided to fill the pool. One of the people they were looking to kick out was actually a person working there as a superintendent. #Me

Also, I heard (from a friend who got to hang with Tony Hawk for a while) that someone did the loop from The End just before Tony did it, but it wasn't on film (or at least not in the video) since that was Tony's part and he was supposed to be the first one to successfully make it around. Is this story true?
@spencerjohnson71979 жыл бұрын
Anklepants Skate Zine I heard that too! I wanna say Peter Hewitt, really surprised that didn't make it on here
@AnklepantsSkateZine9 жыл бұрын
Spencer Johnson I know there's the new 900 controversy now and people are getting all worked up and skewing facts on that. As for the loop, I don't want to call anyone out, I just really want to hear about what I heard because I find it interesting.

Gentlemen, You've inspired me to ride a famous pipe. The one from the 1960's film "The Italian Job" where the Minis drive down. It's in Coventry UK and is now a listed building. Only problem is I've only started skating April 2019. Wish me luck and keep up the shit 👍

Love the way Jeff talks about this. I remember when I was announcing at the Maloof Money Cup. There was a moment at the Maga Ramp where I looked over my left shoulder and saw Jeff dropping in. He got right to the end of the drop in or it lifts you to Ollie into The landing area that the virtue into the vert. Jeff slipped out at the last minute and hit the edge of where he was supposed to be landing and then rolling into the vert. When I mentioned this on social media he blocked me on Facebook LOL now that’s comedy.

Bout 5 or 6 years ago I found, and was first to ride, a 14ft diameter pipe (super thick epoxy resin) and 24 feet long. It was literally a rocks throw from my front door. I (and Todd Johnson, I think) was working for Buck Smith at the time and we took off early from work the next day, and the next, and the next... Was in some heavy sessions on that thing for a month or so til they put it in the ground as part of a sewage lift station.

This is not a critizism of any kind-but i think the internet,and the sponsor-me tapes..,...ruined a bit of the "go to California,to become a pro skater-if you make it",dream-that every skater had until every phone had got a camera,straight online...(...Like i said-this is not critizism of how skateboarding are now-it's just a sentimental thing,i Guess..,....thahahaha....YEAH-AND DO MORE LETTERS-NEED THEM BAD!!!)))
@Painless19928 жыл бұрын
Don't justify yourself, skateboarding nowadays deserves to be criticized because for the big part it has become a shithole. I fully agree, I used to idolize California as the mecca of skateboarding and had the dream going there one day as a kid as well, but now, yeah, times have changed and the whole vibe has been ruined with all the shitstagrams and the over saturation of exposure. Now I can't even identify with nowadays "cali skaters" nor want any affiliation with them. But then again I can't blame the internet itself because it opened the doors for everything I know and has become. I have found out, researched, watched and read so much amazing stuff (mostly from the past that I didn't have the opportunity to have or witness). So yeah, technology goes to an extent, I would be fine with 90's or early 2000's technology these days.
