I am 71 years old now and my first HD bike was a 1974 Shovel and a friend and I put together. My wife and I rode that bike a long way until we traded up. Since then we have owned one other used bike and two new bikes. Now we have changed from bikers to trikers. Together we ride. Rare that I go anywhere without her on the back. For over 40 years we have rode together and in that time had many friends that either stopped riding or move to another part of the country. As for us, will not stop riding unless the future holds something we can't control. I watch you younger people on videos, videos of rallies of the day and think about all the times my wife and had at those rallies. We live in the central part of South Carolina in a town called IRMO. From that point, we have ridden to Key West, New Orleans, Canada, St.Louis and twice to Milwaukee to both the 95th and 100th anniversaries of HD. The only states we have not been in are in the northeast. Maine, New Hampshire and Connecticut. I think one my favorite places to ride is the Blue Ridge Parkway. We have ridden every mile of the parkway and a lot of it many times. Yes, we have ridden the tail of the dragon two times. That is probably the most wasteful ride anywhere. You can't enjoy it for working about wrecking. It is not such a big deal. I have been on worse roads than that. Personally I think it is silly to ride the stretch of road. So for all you young riders still learning how to ride and why you ride, keep on going and enjoy it while you can. As for the crazy stuff, you have not invented a damn thing. My age group can still kick your ass riding. Jerry Hubbard Irmo SC

While I think its absolutely amazing that you still ride with your wife, but I will tell you, I'm never going to claim to reinvent the wheel. Nor would I participate in a challenge of who the "better rider" is. It's not my style. I'm here to hopefully encourage and inspire others to get involved in the community or get out and ride. With that being said, I definitely will agree that my generation is definitely falling behind in promoting this amazing sport. Thanks for watching.

I 67 years old and have been a rider since 1974. Can agree with you 100%, sir. Ride to live, live to ride. My newest ride is a 2006 Heritage Softail. Plan to ride this till I die or the bike dies. Ride strong, brother.

Ownership of a Harley Davidson motorcycle doesn't make you a "biker" any more than an expensive set of tools makes you a "mechanic"!
@FullThrottleHOG Жыл бұрын
And…what is your definition of a “biker”. That term is, and always has been, subjective. But, for argument sake, I’d love to hear how you define the term. I do appreciate you watching though.
@johnsb1550 Жыл бұрын
@FullThrottleHOG I had to think about this for a bit. David Mann. I lived in Rapid City, SD from 1967 to 1983, and went back in 1985, 1988, 1992, 1994, 1998, 2002, 2004 (first year I rode, BTW), 2009, 2015 (75th anniversary), and 2017. I think you know where I'm going. A biker doesn't put a $40k bike into a $5k+ trailer behind a $100k+ motor home, wearing a $500+ dollar full-face helmet. I don't consider myself a biker because I can't ride anymore. The rally that I'm taking about, let's just say, it's not what it used to be. We are in the same category, you asked, we ride motorcycles, we're not bikers.

That fact that you don’t understand says it all. A biker would say to you “If I have to explain it to you, you will never understand”. Being a biker is a lifestyle. It’s not what bike you ride, it’s how you live.
