It is entirely possible to make a decision based on the evidence available, an objectively good decision, that doesn't work out. The fact that something happened to make the decision not work out does NOT necessarily mean the decision was a bad one. The problem with ten hag is many times he wasnt making “wise” decisions, ie making the right decision on the information available even if in hindsight it was wrong. His purchase of mount was always questionable. And many more. I backed him half enthusiastically until the west ham loss where i felt if we lose he has to go.

One of the things I noticed about Ten Hag is that after The Sancho Incident, he never, even veiled, criticised a player again. @Nightsu True. But not being technically gifted isn't the be all and end all to be a decent player. Especially a striker, tons of exmaples over the years. He can definitely finish, and his positioning overall is okay, and that can be improved, but there's plenty times he'd have a goal or two in a game where he just wasn't given it. He makes the movement and he isn't found. We need a starter, he'll be fine off the bench for the moment. We just can't get rid of him, we need depth.
@Nightsu2 күн бұрын
@@Allegro_Giusto his positioning is horrendous. if he even had average positioning with all the chances we create we would have so many goals but he makes it impossible to pass to him (always hiding behind defenders or in bad positions). hes never been in a good position where he "should" have gotten a pass. if you look at it from a passers perspective the pass is impossible (either cut off or against the players momentum). as a prem player you need a basic level of technical ability. a first touch, ball control, balance, short passing etc. he has none of that. **I say this to everyone who thinks he's got potential or is good enough to play for united. watch him carefully. watch the runs he makes, the timing, and if passes are actually possible. watch where he stands on cutbacks (is he in space? is the angle correct? anticipation?). watch his first touch when he gets passed to and if he can control the ball to get a shot off or link up (trampoline touch) i HATE people who blame "service" because thats 30% of it. its a strikers job to make the run for an easy pass and why haaland gets so many attempts.

I predicted before even looking at the table that United would be in the top four by January. It feels like a classic PL season where everyone drops points early on (though it looks like Liverpool might run away with it) and the table won't really shake out until after the hectic Christmas period. This is why I wanted to give ten Hag and Ole before him until the end of their respective final seasons to turn things around. Then I looked at the table and saw that we're only 5 points off third (well, 4 but we're not gonna make up the goal difference quickly) and if Amorim can get the team functioning quickly, top four really should be an expectation rather than a hope. Our actual position in the table is kinda irrelevant until February or March. Right now we need to be looking only at points differences and on that metric, we're doing OK. If we were taking our chances we'd already be comfortably in the top four. Now, saying that, if Amorim wants to use the rest of the season to get his ideas across and results are secondary for him, that's fair enough but top four is so close that I don't think he'll do that. Speaking of Amorim, I was blown away by his first interview. I think every manager figures out what's really wrong at United by the time they get sacked but Amorim might be the first guy to realise what's wrong at the beginning of his tenure rather than the end and that just might give him a chance.
@thebiglebrowski36952 күн бұрын
We are also 5 points off 17th, though. 5 points isn't a small number when you have so many teams above you that also need to drop points for you to catch up. so first time I've seen Jay interrupt Joe consistently and not allow the point to be made. In most of the cases Jay mentions, you can see _why_ the decision was made, it's the result that makes the decision "baffling". Against Crystal Palace, the front line was working, but hadn't broken Palace down. Subbing them for fresher legs might have been want broke the deadlock... it didn't work, but you can see what he was thinking. If anything my personal issue was the substitutes should have started and we didn't have anyone to We've consistently had an issue with "Amad must start/ Ganracho must start" because what most really want to say is "Rashford should be benched". That is fair, but most coaches won't do that to a senior player (and if they did and it kicked off, we'd blame the coach a la Sancho). Garnacho was scoring, Amad got benched more. It is understandable, even if most didn't like it. Rashford's best performance also came he wasn't defending and we were leaking chances on his end. Maz playing #10 set up our goal. He also was moved back to RB later in the game after Dalot made the mistake that cost us the win. Jay forgot the most glaring pre game baffling decision imo - Erikssen routinely played when i didn't expect him to. We had certain deficiencies that were then exploited (Twente goal). But I'm sure Jay forgot because Erikssen but largely played well and scored goals or assisted in that time. So doesn't get flagged as 'questionable'. Not saying i even agree with all of ETH's decisions here...but most of the time the gamble taken was clear - just didn't pan out. So trying to say it never made sense or it was questionable is directly linked to the result. If we start trying to play 3 back under Amorim and it isn't working, very quickly people will start saying the same thing... even if underlying performances are, indeed better. Bottom line: ETH ran was unlucky to a degree but he ran out of time and was rightly sacked. Amorim needs our patience (and luck) to avoid a similar fate.

@rootsrafКүн бұрын
@scottsinner7530 I don't have one personally, I'm not a theoretician. I know what my opinion is. It's a highly debatable and contentious dating as is the argument that it was achieved by slaves using copper tools in the time frame suggested. If you haven't dived down this particular rabbit hole, I highly suggest you do. With a sceptical yet open mind. Start with the work of Robert Schoch, a geologist who studied potential water erosion marks on the Sphinx enclosure.

You can’t extrapolate current points and results for the last three games for the teams fighting for 4th, 5th and 6th because they are by nature inconsistent. Clubs will drop points but there’s no certainty we will win at the same time and close the gap. Being consistently top four season after season is the first goal for the club. It will help attract players and will improve club culture. Finally UFOs and Man United in same show - that’s bingo for me.

Joe, as a fan, please don't confuse optimism and belief for pressure.. We as fans should always be optimistic, and our optimism (and belief) that'll transfer to the team..! At times, it'll be THE thing to get them over the line. If you're talking as a journalist and for your channel, then feel free to do as you please.

Joe's pragmatism is correct, regardless of if people understand why or if they agree. 24:25 "Does this now create an expectation for Amorim that 4th is a possibility? and if you don't get it - people will criticize you." He's not saying you shouldn't believe or hope we can get top 4. I think we will be on the same points as Arsenal on Christmas, just to share my own optimism. But what Joe does say is we need to present a narrative where we can look at the season as an improvement (from last year) when we finish 6th, rather than give in to the giddiness and click-mongering brigade of hopium sellers. I couldn't agree more, because from a "neutral" media perspective it is classic technique to build them up to break them down. So weaponizing any good from the change of guard will happen. & the papers and pundits and every other club's supporters will still take any and every opportunity to critique and lambast real or perceived failings by end of season.

They have started their clueless expectations. This coach has not even played one game yet and they are talking about 3rd position. Lower your expectations so the disappointment won't hurt too much

After Ruud left PSV, we had one of the best seasons in the history of Dutch football. Presumably the same will happen at Man U 👍
@davidgriffith15522 күн бұрын
I agree with Joe! We really, really need patience with a manager and a long term player overhaul. It ain’t happening in January or next summer or the next four windows. I fear that Amorim will be thrown under the bus if he’s not hitting top four each season and a trophy…

Ten Hag felt like a scientist who knew exactly what needed to be done to get results. But his practical application of it in English football against the likes of Klopp, Pep, and Arteta. Plus every team in the league working you hard for the entire game regardless of the scoreline became too much for him. He lacked the charisma to pull a group of misfiring players together for the week in week out adrenaline rush of the Prem. He could get them up for cup runs, but not the bread and butter where a loss didn’t mean elimination. Amorim seems like he can do the theory and tactics, but also has the charisma of the other top modern managers.

As far as I am concerned, if we're 4p behind target when a manager takes over, we should end up no more than 4p behind target at seasons end to claim improvment

The difference needs to be like Klopp in his first years. If we are slapping teams 6-2 one week then drawing 0-0 the next but having loads of chances people will get behind it. As they will see it’s minor tweaks needed that will result in more consistency. The simple fact is: entertainment + goals=time Even if the results aren’t all perfect.

Amorim will probably play better league football. But I don't see us winning a trophy for a long time again. When ten hag 1st came he had that spirit when he swore on TV after the Liverpool game etc. but the media, fan base and the UTD pr team took it all away from him. I hope amorim doesn't fall the same way.

Something does feel different about Ruben compared to Erik. He has something about him that's different, the charisma is different but also the way the club has gone about the PR feels bigger and more committed. Exciting times ahead I feel.
