Don Carr needs his own channel to just demo gear. His demos are simple, to the point, explain the questions one might have about a piece of gear without having to ask them usually [other than 1.4 or 1.7 in this case], and definitely makes one enthusiastic about a piece of gear. Anyways, Don sold me on a Rat, and while I didn't buy Proco -- I bought a clone that seems a bit modded -- it definitely pointed me to a cool pedal that I'm glad I bought, and for only $50 no less. I'm thinking of buying a Fulltone OCD to fully cover my gain needs as far as pedals go and I think I might have to talk to Sweetwater and see what kind of deal I can get, because I had a Joyo Ultimate Drive, liked it, and now am quite interested in the real thing as it were.

Good review. This is the sort of review I was looking for. A guitar player using his guitar control knobs to access different sounds on the OCD. My favorite thing about the pedal is the way it cleans up when you turn down your guitar's volume knob. I use my OCD with gain at about 3pm so that I can access some killer solo tones and roll down the volume for rhythm playing. Excellent pedal. I leave it on all the time during gigs

This is my go to pedal on Amplitube 3, even for some dark and really heavy stuff. Will definitely be saving my pennies to purchase one to replicate the sound live.
@paradisedriveofmarin9 ай бұрын
I first bought the OCD pedal when I was looking to fatten up and dirty up the super-clean and rather trebley tone of my old Musicman 1970's amp (solid state preamp. a Leo Fender mistake, then tubes for power stage-not a mistake). It worked great for that purpose, especially in the HP mode, with the gain about 10 to 11 oclock, the tone down around 9 to 10 for the warmer and more natural tube distortion sounds I prefer. But I recently got a Mesa Boogie Fillmore 25, same tube set as 1960's Fender Deluxe Reverb, and so chimey but warm in its clean mode -it also has two other Boogied" modes with more and much more gain profiles, so cool. Regardless, in all gain all modes, Mesa advises keeping the midrange setting down pretty low. So this video served to clue me in that while like the High Pass mode works great for my thinner sounding trebly amp, as it fattens the midrange, it isn't the best setting for my more balanced and definitely warmer all-tube amp,. So I just tried the Low Pass mode, and voila, this pedal sounds right and sounds good, and can stand being up to 12 oclock on the gain with my generally cleaner musical style. So back to being one of my favorite go-to pedals when playing many different genres at gigs.
@giulioluzzardi7632 Жыл бұрын
Okay, been listening to "Drive pedals" all day now and finally this one stoppex me from yawning, that mid-thing is the clincher, I need to tame a brittle/bitey/loud combo with a Strat and this sounds perfect, I am going for that Ventures luve 65 sound and this (believe it or not) will provide the mid-zing I need, thankyou very much !

This pedal sounds great (especially in this video), but beware how freaking LOUD this pedal is; it can be tough to use on/off during a song without completely blowing up the mix when you turn it on. I would have to play with the volume/drive both around 10 o'clock or 10:30, and it was tough, because a touch too low and you lose the tone and it sounds bad, but a touch too high and you are way too loud all of a sudden.

@tjnugent626 жыл бұрын
I use this pedal on Rig's costing much less and I get great results. Picking your gear, be it expensive or budget, there is no reason that you can't get something at every price point that is really good. You just have to keep in mind, humbuckers sound different than single coils, so don't expect a Les Paul to play like or sound like a Strat or Tele. That would be impossible. It just ain't right.. Ain't nobody got time for this.
@MrMetalclay6 жыл бұрын
@@tjnugent62 I've used singles and doubles and different amps (cheap decent ones) and I never get the sound I'm expecting from video demos. There's also lots of other places that signal has got to go before it hits our ears from KZbin. I think if you want great tone from electric guitar you have to be somewhat good at signal flow and electronics.
@tjnugent626 жыл бұрын
@@MrMetalclay Clay, Not only does the signal chain go through a lot, but the upload process for youtube is to compress the hell out of it, which removes information and takes away from rich harmonics. I would love to see some brilliant scholar figure out how to make youtube as a super high fidelity platform. It may happen as our Internet connections get faster, but remember, 1 second of full frame video and uncompressed audio equals 18mb's per second. It takes up a load of space, so it must be compressed to work well.

Which version is the one used in the demo? 1.4 or 1.7?
@sweetwater9 жыл бұрын
Hi DcsOrCity! Sounds like you’ve been reading gear forums, haha! There is much folklore about the mighty OCD, here are the facts. According to Fulltone, version 4 is the latest and final version. There were significant changes made to that version but there have been no official changes since. All that I can say for sure about the OCD I played in the video is that when I shot the video in late May/early June of 2014, it came directly from our warehouse. Sweetwater sells many OCDs per day so you can safely assume that the one I was playing was as current as possible. Reading the forums, people have reported that their OCDs have 1.4 or 1.7 written on the circuit board, which is obviously where the concern arose. My best advice is to play the pedal for yourself and see what it does for you. The OCD has tremendous toothy-ness and bite without being harsh, and the range of gain is fantastic-not to mention the feel! My guess is, that if you like what you heard in the video, you’ll be ecstatic when you play through it, regardless of the folklore. Thanks! Don Carr

which version? 1.2.3.4 ?
@carlossanchez70444 жыл бұрын
I bought mine from Sweetwater around the time he replied to the post below...5 years ago. The circuit board says 1.7. Interestingly, I ipicked up a used one last week, and while the handwritten info inside the unit say V1.7, the circuit board says 1.4, and both my OCDs sound the same, and sound just like the demo. I have also found that the serial/version number info from web sources is unreliable. Version numbers don't match up with serial numbers. For example, if I follow the serial number info, my first OCD should be a V1.3, but it's not, thr board says 1.7. In addition the light is red, which began with version 1.4. According to Mr Fulltone himself, everything between 1.4 and 1.7 is the same sonically. My thinking is that slight differences people seem to hear has to do with slight differences in component tolerances, and these diffferences can be accommodated by using the controls properly to adjust, to your taste.
