1:43 For the PLA vacuum forming process, did you just print a sheet and then use that in your process? Would you consider doing a video on your technique?

That’s exactly what I did, I modeled a .32mm thick plate with the right dimensions for my former then printed it, not the most efficient way to do it but it gives me lots of options on cone material and color since vacuum forming and 3D printing both rely on thermoplastics. I wouldn’t be opposed to doing a short video on it. I’ll definitely consider it.

@@piscesprinting4170 Please do. I never thought of doing it that way. I'm interested in your process, but with much thinner sheets. Seeing how you do it would be of immense value to me and I'm sure to many others as well!

I like the breadbox! Its quite cute, and if you scaled this up and turned it into a Sub, I can see myself putting it on a media cabinet in the same place and orientation a soundbar would usually go, and it would be quite nice. I also agree that manufacturing is by far the biggest challenge for practical design

Thanks! My sub plans have been derailed due to my large format printer giving me issues- so I’m debating on a k-series max for a future purchase and moving away from my large format bed slinger. I do agree having opposing driver/radiator would be ideal for low frequency reproduction in a room so a sound bar space is ideal. It’s hard to convey over video but this combo does rattle a few things around the room when turned up- all testing is performed with .5v input to the sub- so the play test and response is only ever 1/8-1/4 of the usable volume. Also the manufacturing is a pain, this is the second time I’ve built multiple “drivers” though this time it wasn’t two motors. So I need a jig setup to center the cone and surround and larger lip to mount the surround to- those were the two big issues- I also ruined about 7 cone-formers with the alignment tool for attaching them together getting glued in the mix as well. No amount of mold spray release would let it release easy. So definitely improvements to be made.

@piscesprinting4170 absolutely some work left to do on your setup, best of luck!

This is very cool, but I think adding a proper handle would make it easier to grab.
@piscesprinting41708 күн бұрын
Thanks! I have had no issue using the slot as a handle, a strap could be ran through if it’s really an inconvenience though.

good try! sounds desend, you could make a PR more simple, just a flat thick plate, and make it a lot heavier to get lower resonance freq, it will add more bass, and should eliminate higher freq noises

so the speaker isnt fully 3d printed.

The thumbnail says “*almost….” But not much more could be 3D printed at this point.

how much did the vacuum former cost? how does it compare to commercial units?!?!
@piscesprinting41707 күн бұрын
It was about $110 USD, I have no experience with commercial units but it performs well once you figure out how “soft” the plastic should be. Only complaint in the 110x110mm vacuum space.

Oh and do you have discord or smth?= I could maybe help you a bit to your designs :) Also here the critics: Sound is pretty warm tho I wouldve made the Spider out of PETG because its so thin, also the Distortion also shows that the Membrane is bending quite a bit wich means the cone isnt strong enough, but could also be a linearity issue or smth, but yeah you have a pretty strong Motor at 12g Mms is pretty impressive to get almost 80db :D
@piscesprinting41709 күн бұрын
Spider is TPU but it’s a 70D variant so it’s way stiffer than usual TPU- think like construction hardhat in terms of rigidity. I do think the cone needs to be stronger, using vacuum forming on the cone led to a varying thickness of the cone- the .32mm thick sheet of pla when stretched over the mold thinned out to .15-.18mm at the point where the former attached to the cone,while at the point where the surround attached it was closer to .28mm.

If there is a discord id be down to be in that as well. I agree the sound is quite warm, but its rather pleasant? When listening on speakers that are also pretty warm, it is too much warmth, but when moving to reference headphones i don't mind it nearly as much. I also like a very slightly warm sound in general, I should note.

I suppose I could setup a discord if there’s enough desire- it would be easier to post minor updates to discord and I could also have community input and projects there as well.

@piscesprinting4170 i mean realistically it would probably be quite small, but a few interested people can make a big difference

Yes a Discord Server! I would love to help when it comes to the technical things :) And I also have some nice Video Ideas and other things to improve your speaker distortion!
