Quite an in depth one for you guys this time! Started off breaking in the GZPW9910 a bit further, and noticed an inconsistency with the dayton DATS software. So i took you guys though what I discovered!

@@smallenginedude71 It IS class "D", and it actually will! Switch mode amplifiers don't dissipate nearly as much heat as an analogue amplifier, so it doesn't need to be built into nearly as large of a heat sink.

@vincentrobinette1507 5 жыл бұрын
Class "D" switch mode amplifiers don't need to be nearly as big, because they don't dissipate nearly as much heat as analogue amps do. That allows them to produce 10 X the power, in a heat sink 1/2 the size.

When using added mass method, the Fs should decrease by about 25%. If its more or less you may get inaccurate measurements

I would like to see these in a nice high compression front loaded horn box. These motors would be wasted on a ported box, they really need to be able to pressurize some air to get the most out of the tough little cones and big magnet motors.

The inconsistency is not with the software. The added mass method works under specific criteria. First---you cannot just add mass and plop it down on the cone. It must be secured otherwise it can bounce around on it's own because it's not physically part of the moving parts. Double sided foam tape works great because it's very tacky, and it does not add significant mass on it's own. This absolutely needs to be addressed otherwise you're just shooting yourself in the foot/chasing your own tail. Second----the added mass *cannot* be arbitrary. The premise of the added mass method is to cause the Fs to shift downward approximately 25%. This means for "typical" woofers, you usually end up adding 60-75% of the Mmd is. This may not apply to your case because you do not have "typical" woofers. Of course you might not know the Mmd before hand, but you can reasonably attain a good value, by *securely* adding mass, and then taking "dummy measurements" only to check the downward shift of Fs. Since your unloaded Fs is 65Hz, a 25% drop is 65Hz x 0.75 = about 48Hz. You don't want to add too much mass because then the spider's compliance will be too much different from it's at-rest state. Once you get that ~25% drop in Fs, THEN: take off the added mass and get a new baseline reading (because you were taking a bunch of trial runs solely to check the Fs--the other T/S parameters will be wacky). Then add and secure the proper added mass and run the Vas measurement with the added mass method. This will be the most accurate Vas figure using the added mass method. Also, you cannot simply weigh the soft parts and use that as Mmd, because the outer portions of the surround and spider do not move as much as the inner portions, therefore their mass contributions to the *moving* system becomes more and more negligible the further away you get from the center of the system. With a heavy surround and thick, multiple spiders, this can account for quite some mass. This is the cause of your headache. The BL changes because it's calculated based on the other raw parameter measurements/calculations. If the other raw parameters are wrong, nearly everything gets thrown off. Happy testing.

Late to the party here, but that little ripple in your impedance curve is probably a fan running (power supply/computer/etc.). Any wind or noise will give you a bad reading. Also you need to add a lot more mass on very stiff spl subs to get accurate Vas. I do about 3 pounds on something like those.

I understand, that there is flux modulation of the magnet when the driver is run at 5,000 watts, but the BL rating suggests, that there could be as high as 2,080 Newtons of force from the voice coil. That can lift the weight of 3 people! Am I right? 5,000 watts puts 100 volts, which draws 50 amps RMS @ 2 Ohms. that's 70.7 amps peak, which, multiplied by 29.416 Newtons per amp, equals 2,080 Newtons. With flux modulation and flux saturation of the magnet, it could realistically be closer to 1/2 that. When you said you could sit on the cone, and barely flex it, that could actually be accurate. If I'm right, air loading will be less than 1% of the load on the amplifier. The coil can easily lift a 100 Kg person! The question, is weather the magnet has the field strength to maintain BL at 5,000 watts?

Trying to match parameters closer to manufacturer specs is not good. They can be wrong to begin with. Three factors are at play here.1. Warm versus cool parts2. Weight placement on cone assembly.3. Connection joints to frame distribute some of the total mass of cone assembly. That is why you see a change in the compliance of the suspension, Qms.

Hey bud, love your videos. I have 3 questions if you can answer when you get a chance. I just purchased 2 of the new 712 DVC2 redline subs. I have not installed them yet so do I need to break these in as well? I know their rms is 1200 but I know they’re underrated. How much power can I put on them without damaging them? Last question is are you going to do a video on just the new 3512i subs? Keep up the good work. Thanks.

I'm just thinking over this problem. Could it be that the added weight needs to be a significant portion of the cone+motor assembly. As in bigger woofer = more added weight needed.

The problem with T/S parameters is that they only measure at tiny voltages, big subwoofers/speakers don't run at 1w or a single frequency.
@fidstang

Small signal parameters are a great way to see how a given driver will perform. Many factors impact large signal performance, but small signal still indicate overall characteristics. Not to mention, all speakers will and do play at 1watt.

Sound relies on pressure waves; if you're in a vacuum, there's no substance for those soundwaves to pressurize. This is why space doesn't have sound. Although it's not a true 100% vacuum, there's enough empty space for nothing to happen.

that amp is also not a 9000 watt rms capable amplifier, or that setup. On there own page it lists the input current, at rated output, at 350A. 14v at 350 amps is only 4900 watts and that's peak not rms at 100 percent efficiency. Accounting for best efficiency rating of a class d amp of 90% and a best in class 90% efficient switching supply, and on top of that its rms not peak. At 9000 watts the amp and supply would need to source over 18000 watts peak. Not possible with that setup you have, those cables are way too small. RMS calc : 1.414*9000=15390 watts peak, 15390/14=1100 amps, smps eff.=1.10*15390=16929/14=1209 amps , class d amp eff. 1.1*16929=18621/14=1330amps. I don't think you got the correct numbers.

Do you not have anything better to do? Banda list this as AVERAGE MUSIC PROGRAM. This means the value is taken over a 3 minute period while playing music. The stuff they listen to in Brazil is more trancey and clubby, making for pulses and gaps in the bass, lowering the average. Feel free to email banda yourself to confirm this. Playing a continuous sine I have clamped rated power from these in a vehicle on static 1ohm dummy loads drawing over 850a. Also, if you had ever looked inside of of these amps, you'll notice that the components inside and rail voltage are fully capable of rated power.

agm's, while better at cycling than flooded cells are still best to just top off and not cycle. you are confusing nicd memory affects with with these batteries. don't you think if the manufacture saw any benefit from "breaking in" as you say, because things could break if they are used as they are intended "per there specifications" then they would do this before they leave the factory. rubish
@barevids
@barevids 7 жыл бұрын
Thad ward if you speak to any reputable manufacturer of loudspeakers, in pro audio, Home theatre or car audio, they will advise you of a break in period. you would know this if you have measured the ts parameters of a brand new woofer, noticed that they are way off the manufacturers rated specs, then measured again after a break in period to fall within the specified parameters, like I have.
@easyamp123
@easyamp123 7 жыл бұрын
I'm very aware of this. I use a dats2 and a keithley 2015thd to measure my drivers before I build enclosures and yes there is a significant change in the ts, but he said break not change in ts params. or you said

You are referring to "normal" 9kw as Korean style class D amplifier board. This Banda is completely different technology, Digital class D, research the technology and you will see it requires much less components for the same power output as a traditional Korean class amplifier :) Amps are getting smaller. Before class D came along, all amps were class AB. now, a 9k class AB amp would be about the size of the whole car!!!
