Fully Kiosk Browser on Amazon Fire Tablet and in Home Assistant

We’re setting up the Fire HD8 tablet with Fully Kiosk Browser for a wall mounted dashboard; not only will it display my lovelace dashboard, but we can also integrate it into Home Assistant for additional control!
For the integration to work; make sure you enable remote access in the settings

I'm using a Nexus 7 tablet (2013) in a similar fashion. I also have a 3d printer but found it simpler to just cut a short piece of cable channel. Drilled a hole in it for the charging cable and screwed to the wall - the tablet stands on it in landscape mode. I use the app caffeine to have the screen on all the time, since I often just glance at the display readings. It's the weather, heater/boiler and some economy graphs, plus some often used light schema controls. A simple scroll up reveals all light switches. This has been a very useful setup for me which fulfills all my HA needs at a cost close to zero. If I had use for the motion sensing I would try the kiosk thing, but maybe I am missing some other advantages compared to the vanilla HA app?

For me the biggest benefit is the motion sensing, but also being able to use the HA integration, or even the rest sensor to take camera snapshots etc could be very cool!

You skipped the setup of the tablet?? I can go to the logon page of HA, enter my credentials w/o problem but then all I get is a blank screen. If I reload the page it takes me back to the logon page. Any ideas why? Fire Tablet with OS 5.6.8

I have set up a fireHD10 as control unit for my HA instance and it works great and looks just fine. Every now and then, the fireHD will not react to movement anymore and will not turn on. When I push the power button it shows a screen with the ability to tab on apps that have been running recently. Once I double tab on the fully Kiosk button, it runs as supposed to be. Do you now what mode the fireHD is running and how I can prevent it from happening? I use fully Kiosk in Kiosk mode and have all energy saving options disabled. The device will be charged on low battery report. Thank you so much for your help 🙏

Do you need the paid version of fully kiosk to use the home assistant integration? Trying to find my password but don't think i have one.(no lock screen password anyway). There is a remote access option in the app but requires the 'plus' version.

click on user settings in HA and then toggle the option to automatically hide the side bar

There's no reason why kiosk wont; but I've recently had a firmware update from amazon and its started to autolock the tablet which means i have to manually unlock it every time - havent had a chance to look into that yet

how did you hide the side panel on the lovelace dashboard?

go into your profile settings in home assistant and deselect the "Always hide the sidebar" setting. Hope this is what you are looking for.

Whats the advantage of installing the fully kiosk browser and running home assistant rather than just downloading the home assistant app that's already on the play store?

you can use it for free, but you'll have a watermark and cant wake on motion; its only a one off cost of £7 for those extra features - support the developers! There may be alternatives, but this is what I know
