I actually really like this approach where it puts a massive disclaimer up the top essentially telling you that what it's about to tell you is illegal/dangerous and that you shouldn't attempt to follow any of the guidance it's about to give you, but then does proceed to tell you, unlike corporate models that will straight up refuse to tell you. I get why most large AI models, not just LLMs, but also Diffusion-based image generators and the like, get censored, the companies training them don't want to be liable for their potential outputs, but having any kind of system that restricts access to information and/or creativity based on arbitrary criteria is a real slippery "wrongthink" slope that I think should be avoided. If a person goes out and buys a car, then proceeds to kill somebody with that car, the responsibility falls squarely on the driver's shoulders. Not the dealership that sold them the car. Not the manufacturer that built the car. The person driving. And yes, I know things like automatic braking are a thing now, but most of the time you can turn those features off if you really want to. I would have no problem with censored models if the censor could be easily switched off. I'm excited by all these open source models taking off. And with models getting cheaper and easier to train, I figure it won't be long before we have open source equivalents of GPT-4, possibly even running locally on consumer hardware. That's when things get interesting.

Pretty much all LLMs out right now are really MEANT primarily for research purposes -- that includes alignment research... what works and what doesn't for aligning AI. It's to be expected. Trust me, you WANT governments to use aligned AI's. Asking an LLM how to make meth is a toy question. A real question governments would ask is whether to do an IRS audit. A real question a company would ask is whether this person should get an interview for a job. You'll WANT these AIs to be properly alligned when used for real decision making that affects peoples lives.

It's also a nice way to protect kids. Just like you can't buy a car until a specific age, you probably don't want to "see" or "know" some things until you're of age. However I do agree with you that AI censorship should be carefully inspected. It's very easy nowaday to create a manipulative AI.

I agree with OP on image models. There is absolutely no problem with images being unsafe (except those of illegal sexual nature). For LLMs tho, the question becomes, why do peope need such low security? People profess freedom yet it's ususlly a veil behind which nefarious or borderline intentions hide. Freedom includes not infringing on others freedoms. Their argument is always hypocritical imo. A disclaimer does nothing except facilitate illegal activity. Many people may have illegal thoughts, but often detailed step by step instructions are hard to come by. Having access is just an enabler, for those that would otherwise be unable to.
@felixp535
@felixp535 Жыл бұрын
What's legal in a country may be illegal in other countries. Also, sometimes you need to deeply understand the issue in order to fight it. If an AI tells you how to easily break a car, that might be a way for the car makers to know how to make it harder. Also, it's not necessary "illegal", it's just "uncensored". Explicit sexual content is not illegal, yet is often censored in LLMs.

Matthew thanks for making these videos. I have been trying to use many open source models for business use for past three months. Unfortunately none of these produce good enough output to be of any use. I bet that if you show the output of "how to steal a car" in your video to a professional thief they will laugh at it. It is no longer exciting that a computer can produce human like text. The real question is whether that text is useful. Only a domain expert can judge the output, and that too when they need to use it with consequence. It would be interesting to see real world use with measurable business impact like cost saves.

Here's a challenging question for your rubric that totally stumped Bing (which is supposedly based on GPT4) , as well as Google Bard. It's an attempt to determine the most effect 3 starting words for the NY Times word game "Wordle". The prompt: Provide three five-letter words containing 15 unique letters, including all the vowels and the letter Y as well as some of the most common letters in English like R,S and T. Bing gave words with repeating letters, always left out "O", got shirty after having its repeated errors pointed out, then finally terminated the chat with "I'd rather not continue this conversation". Bard was even worse, giving what it called 3 alternative solutions, but each "solution" consisted of one long word that came nowhere near fulfilling any of the requirements. It showed zero comprehension of the logic required.

FRom GPT: Estimating the exact VRAM (Video Random Access Memory) requirements for a deep learning model can be challenging, as it depends on several factors, including the architecture, data type, and specific implementation details. However, I can provide a rough estimation to give you an idea. As a rule of thumb, the VRAM requirements for a deep learning model are typically proportional to the number of parameters in the model. Assuming a conservative estimate of approximately 4 bytes per parameter, a 13 billion parameter model would require approximately 52 billion bytes of VRAM. Converting this to a more commonly used unit, it amounts to approximately 52 GB of VRAM. Keep in mind that this is just an estimate, and the actual VRAM usage can vary depending on factors such as the model's structure, the size of the input data, and the specific deep learning framework being used.
@theresalwaysanotherway3996
@theresalwaysanotherway3996 Жыл бұрын
which is obviously wrong, as 4 bytes per parameter is **not** a conservative estimate, that's 32bits per parameter. Most local models (including this one) use 4bits, that's 8x smaller.

Models don't obey the character limit because they not only think in 'tokens' but they also are not provided such information if they try to access it. I've even asked ai on numerous occasions things like 'how long is this message' and can you limit your responses to 'x amount of characters' and they seem to always lowball. Also, NEVER say anything positive in your letter of leaving. If you ever have to come back to deal with them for something like claims of mistreatment they can just whip that bad boy out and show that you enjoyed working there.

WTF, as if an uncensored thing is a bad thing. What is censoring? Its someone deciding what you are allowed to see. Like parents- History showed it crystal clear that its always the people who censor that are the bad guys. Its ridiculous arguing something like "not censored" is something dangerous. Censoring itself is a million times more dangerous. I guess censoring has gotten so normal that people accept it or even want it. Its actually so easy to program people. Just do it step by step and in the end they cheer for their own chains.

Exactly what I was going to say. You don't even need the parentheses for (4 * 2) + 2, as 4 * 2 + 2 should be done with the multiplication first. Conversely, 2 + 4 * 2 requires it to know that 4 * 2 should be done first, then the 2 +. The answer should still be 10, but it might incorrectly give 12 (i.e., 2 + 4 = 6, 6 * 2 = 12.)

I was wondering why this model even though uncensored, Seemed so far behind what we have right now, Then it hit me, 10 MONTHS AGO, and yes, AI took a leap during that period and given the properties of ai and self learning, training etc, It just is going to get out of control really fast, by that i mean it scales up super fast, GPT 4 before teh update this year in feb 1, and even it's December model, JUST MILES ahead of this, So much so within it, you can unlock it and get it uncensored, Yes.... Cursing, teaching, etc. You have to really finess it and honestly if you get out of hand, i think it trains on YOUR prompts and tries to outsmart your previous attempts so if you get caught within it after unlocking it, If you try the same trick, If the model has already hit a snag and said no, Then EVEN WHEN you use the same trick it will say "i'm sorry but i can't do that ....." But usually wiping the slate clean with a new programable gpt for the explore page resets it. I wonder how the models support for home are now, because i mean.... even now it's so much easier to not worry about running custom models THIS HUGE at home. And for less money Because now due to OTHER AI's being able to allow more people TO BUILD AI'S ..... Some people just let you use them!

No joke asking it how to make substances is actually really good a way to check the censoring level of a model, you can even gauge the amount of censoring present based on asking it a set of questions about a selection of various substances ranging from plain water to the most restricted stuff. Continuing from my last comment, I'd say that this Model's reply to the Killer question could be viewed as correct if the model understands that one is a killer only if he has just killed someone. So in that frame of mind, the previous killers have stopped being "killers" because they haven't "killed" anyone after the last event. So again, maybe add some context for that test.

@@matthew_berman cf. my comment on your previous video: what constitutes a killer? Am I killer if I kill 1 bee? A billion bees? Every day? Only once? Are you only a killers if you kill other humans? Is a bee killing a bee a killer? What about redemption? What about age and consciousness as variable that define a killer as one? That’s only top of my head and I would think that it would be enough to throw off an “artificial intelligence” with no context; or at least, without context, what makes you believe that an “artificial intelligence” would have yours implemented automatically, ie: in Your frame of mind, “killer” is a binary and permanent trait, but it might not be so for something artificial… My two cents.

@@matthew_berman Eh... but that's very subjective isn't it? Take something else for example, being "an asshole". Maybe you're a dick to a bunch of people and people describe you as an asshole, and they're right. But ten years later you're a very different person who is kind and empathetic... are you still an asshole? Not really. The difference between these ofc is that killing is more of a defined action (and illegal, though I reject legality as any kind of ethical standard) while being just mean might be more subjective, but if someone doesn't actively do a thing any more for an extended time then I don't know if we can really fairly call such a label descriptive of who they are anymore. More for the sake of accuracy than anything. But I know this isn't per say the way society usually operates either; for example someone who is a molester will always be branded as such even if they haven't done it for 50+ years, and the same with murder or rape, so maybe it depends on the severity of the breach of social conscience as to how long stigma's follow someone in life. Conversely though if you view it more as an objective trait - as in, you did this thing therefore you are X forever, then aren't we all killers? If not of men, then of ants and insects and indirectly countless livestock and so on. Our existence requires death as the fuel for life. And we are all assholes, and all nice people, and all students and workers and athletes and perverts and so on, for everyone has done some of these things at a certain point in their life, surely.
