SUBSCRIBE, LIKE & SHARE if you want Clean Energy & Electric Vehicles to be the norm. In this mind-blowing episode Elliot goes behind the scenes at the impressive BYD (Build Your Dreams) factory in Shenzhen to find out what makes them such an electric superpower. What BYD have achieved in the last few years is simply staggering - from batteries and solar panels to a full suite of electric vehicles including cars, trucks, taxis and buses. As well as a tour of the factory, Elliot took the BYD Han and the Tang cars for a drive, checked out the D1 taxi and rode a couple of their electric buses. With the factory currently producing 400 cars a day, we are pretty excited to see what BYD will do next! Great post, and I do not want to seem greedy. But FC needs to do a follow-up post, that's just about the BYD blade battery. Since some key aspects were missing from it in this story. Such as not mentioning it's LFP chemistry and the unique game changing way it's constructed. It's truly amazing tech, so IMHO it deserves it own post. Also when will BYD or Toyota or any other brand bring it to the west???

What set China apart as a country is really a sense of mission. The thinking in China is that we missed the ICE car revolution, only caught up somewhat near the tail end of it, so we are not going to miss the EV revolution. The government and the industry are working together to achieve that goal. In the West, vested interest groups like slow moving legacy automakers and petroleum lobbies and partisan politicians are all pulling in different directions, so of course the progress will be slower in the West.

What maybe not many know is that BYD is the first Chinese OEM to use Swedish Dirac Research’s audio software algorithms to optimize the audio system and get high-end sound performance. BYD Han’s top range audio system use Dirac Live technology also used in many high-end home audio systems. It also has Dirac branded speakers, one of the first cars to use a cool software company brand on their speakers. All in all a very nice and beautiful car.

I'm a little confused, BYD had to go to Sweden in order to obtain high end audio sound. I always thought that there were many high end audio suppliers already in China. They seem to have all products covered from lower end budget to high end products in every category. Thinking about it, (after re reading your comment) I guess it would add that "cool" factor to say " yada, yada, yada, & it's got an imported DIRAC Research audio system with 43 speakers & 9 sub-woofers in the back . . . " But as most audiophiles know high end audio systems require concentrated listening in order to hear the "triangle" when it chimes in amongst all the other instruments. So more of a gimmick.
@JABelms
@JABelms 3 жыл бұрын
@@badabing6852 Don't think about it too much, Dirac is just audio software and it's probably cheaper than Dolby licenses that's why they probably got it. Also China has great audio gear but I never seen any high end audio software from China. Also do remember that BYD products are marketed towards the European market as well, so there is more reason they went with Dirac than you think

Logan Zhou the clean tech does not extend to the removal of the co2 that is generated by burning coal. Whilst the production and use of electric vehicles provides the opportunity to utilise renewable energy, the facts are that any increased usage in many areas of China will currently be met by coal. Theses aren't cheap cars. The BYD Tang starts at a 285000 yuan net price for the front motor version. If you want to buy this car in Germany that's 36500€. Now we have to add a 10% EU import tax and 19% Vat, making it 48000€. After the 6000€ BEV rebate, it's 42000€. If you want the all wheel drive version with good features you can easily pay 50000€ for the car.

I hope every western ICE vehicle CEO is already aware of the upcoming competition- if not they are in for a rude awakening. That basic taxi- I want one! I'd buy it tomorrow (I'm assuming it would be cheap)- I hope BYD release it in uk- a similar version for members of the public would be a best seller.

Great post, and I do not want to seem greedy. But FC needs to do a follow-up post, that's just about the BYD blade battery. Since some key aspects were missing from it in this story. Such as, not mentioning it's LFP chemistry or the unique game changing way it's constructed. It's truly amazing tech, so IMHO it deserves it own post. Also when will BYD or Toyota or any other brand bring it to the west???

Elliot is doing great content, shame they did not let him loose driving one of the buses. The dedicated EV for a taxi is interesting. I'm glad you said that 0-60 times are pointless. That's how I think about them also. Why should you want to shorten the battery by having a huge acceleration when range is so much more important? Why should you want to have a speeding ticket in 3.9 seconds? Utterly pointless. All these HP's, why? Give the car so much power that it accelerates as an old fashion combustion car, with a top speed of that car and all is well. Why do roads need to be filled with sport cars? Pointless.
@donaldduck5731
@donaldduck5731 3 жыл бұрын
I should imagine since the motor works as a generator during regen braking to recharge the battery as it decelerates, the car can be less reliant on its mechanical brakes and more efficient in stop start city traffic.

You are right but the industry is full of silly rev heads that want sport or muscle cars. The public on the other hand want ID3 and 4 styles that get them and their kids and dog from A to B, as cheap, safe and less hassle as possible.
@joeyc8546
@joeyc8546 3 жыл бұрын
If they dont give it a perk to display its competitiveness against combustion engines no one will listen to the other benefits of them. If they say here is an 80hp electric car with a good range it would appear they cant do any better, so why not make a statement and throw the toys at the demonstrator. Having so much power might be easier to an electric motor too so it isnt a big deal esp if the motors are common between models and the cars are a decent size so some of that balances out watts/kg. The D1 was more modest power because it was spec’d to the client so it didnt need to brag, it was how the taxi service wanted it.
@logicalChimp
@logicalChimp 3 жыл бұрын
Unlike an ICE, an electric motor can be spec'd for high power - and still achieve very high efficiency when used 'sensibly'. Thus there's less trade-off for a high-performance motor, and it helps grab headlines. Separately, even if you don't use that power all the time, there will be times / places where having that power on hand is an advantage / makes driving safer (not least merging onto high-speed roads from a slow merge speed)

Warren Buffett invested 10% of BYD total shares. Warren Buffet 's company "Berkshire Hathaway" first tried to buy 25% of BYD, but Wang turned down the offer. He wanted to be in business with Buffett - to enhance his brand and open doors in the U.S., he says - but he would not let go of more than 10% of BYD's stock. "This was a man who didn't want to sell his company," Buffett says. "That was a good sign."
