Ok, though it looked great in the video, I was VERY skeptical as to how it would taste. Well, I just made it. It was super easy. I didn't use quite as many dates or nuts for the crust OR the filling. WHOA. This is delicious!! Thanks so much for the recipe! I've made a few of Kristina's recipes and have been blown away by each of them! This is no different. TRY IT!!
@bdoyle98819 жыл бұрын
How many dates did you use? may I ask?? I want to make this too
@myrahudsonkey9 жыл бұрын
I used about a cup of nuts and approx 6 large medjool dates for the crust. I added probably 8 dates for the filling and also added 1/4c of unsweetened coconut flakes. It's as solid as traditional pumpkin pie, without being in the freezer. I simply refrigerated it and it was perfect!
@GeorgiaAndrea8 жыл бұрын
True. I find 5 dates is already enough to make a sweet venti size drink!

Omg Kristina you are such an inspiring woman. You always put a smile on my face and I just love watching your videos. I can't thank you enough though. On thanksgiving of last year, I was still eating meat and dairy my entire life. I was active but inside, I felt slugglish all the time and I knew that my diet was affecting me. Then that night on Thanksgiving, I saw one of your videos on being a Fully Raw vegan. When I first saw you, you had such an amazing complexsion and always had a huge smile on your face. I knew in my heart that you had a passion for this lifestyle and I could tell how healthy and happy you were from that day forth. From that moment you inspired me to change my diet and my life. I am currently now a vegan and for almost a full year now! I can run so much farther now and I feel so much more confident and happier than I was before. I can't thank you enough for helping me become aware of this diet and I've never felt so alive in my life. Someday I want to visit the Rawfully Organic company in Texas and purchase fresh fruits and veggies from your Co Op. Thank you Kristina for being an inspiration to me and everyone else!

For anyone who is worried about the amount of fat in this recipe, simply reduce the amount of nuts. If you use 1.5 cups of pecans (there is barely any fat in dates), and if you cut a portion slice, it comes out to about 14.5 grams of fat per slice. If you ate the whole pie, that would be a different story for a different day and most likely not the healthiest option. When eaten in proportions, it would count as your 10% fat for the day if not less. This is a holiday recipe! Hope that helps! hugs

Kristina, or anyone else, do you know if you can substitute the persimmons with another fruit? Like maybe mango? I'm asking because in New York City, it is actually very hard to find ripe persimmons! Or if anyone reading this in NYC knows where I can find good, fresh, ripe produce. I'm going to make this pie as a birthday cake for my boyfriend THIS WEEKEND! Help!
@MaYo0012710 жыл бұрын
Im not sure what you can substitute for it. But I have bought persimmons at the Fairway Markets, but not the kind that Kristina used, the one that I have seen in Fairways were firm (like a pear) but it still should do the job of adding that extra pumkiny flavor.
@soilmanted10 жыл бұрын
MaYo00127 NO! If they are firm they are not ripe yet and will have lots of astringency. Very unpleasant on the tongue. That said, a well-ripened pear is soft, like a ripe avocado.
@MaYo0012710 жыл бұрын
After having another persimmon that was firm gave me that unpleasant feeling. So I agree. I'm not sure how the other one managed to be firm and sweet.

Hey Mama Spooky , you can def find persimmons in NY. I don't know about ripe but Trader Joes, Whole Foods,Fairway should have them. Union Square Farmer's market could also carry them. My biggest tip is to go to an Asian supermarket. Chinatown or Koreatown. Persimmons are really big in Asia. Even as a kid, I knew them as Kaki and nothing else (which by the way might be the name written instead of persimmon). Good luck!

I'm making this again for Christmas along with a similar apple pie ala banana ice kream. I'm not putting as many dates in the crust though, since it works pretty well with less and tastes more like pie crust. The apple pie will have a walnut crust. I'm making these in 5-inch quiche pans for the cutest individual pies possible. What do you think about that? Thanks for helping me find a way to make Christmas festive this year. All you raw posters have given me some fantastic ideas.

The pie crust isn't exactly "low sugar." It isn't low fat either, although pecan oil still in the pecans, has more micronutrients than even expeller pressed. Not sure I'd like raw pumpkin. Eat the whole pie yourself? NO! WAY too many dates. It would make me feel sick. One slice, fine, but not the whole pie. Not everyone has a Vitamix blender. They are very expensive. About 2 or 3 times as much as your Cuisineart processor. 10 times as much as an ordinary blender.
@Michelle-pn9xt5 жыл бұрын
You can add fewer dates. Nobody is going to get sick because they eat healthy foods. Do you get sick if you eat regular cokies,cakes and pies? Everything that she used was healthy. Everything does not have to low fat. We need fat in our bodies. Nuts and foods like avocados are good for you.
@Boboelise4 жыл бұрын

Pecans have 71 grams of fat per 1/2 cup, you put at least 2 cups of pacans in there. 71 x 4 =284 grams of fat = Not a low fat desert Please do not lie to people about health and be more transparent, not all of us just blindly watch and listen.
@Joliejojolie11 жыл бұрын
There's actually 71 for an entire cup...and she straight out says she's only using a cup and a half.
@D25F9111 жыл бұрын
Remember, the total amount of fat is for in the ENTIRE pie. You're not gonna eat the entire pie in one day all by yourself are you? You'll just eat one slice per day maybe. Therefore, low fat. And remember, even though it is fat, it's the fat from nuts. Which are good for you and your body needs a little amount of it every once in a while. Better to think twice before you call people liars!

Just so everyone knows, FullyRawKristina got her publicist to aggressively threaten Rawvana with legal action to stop copying her style because she made a few recipes similar to Kristina's. How is that displaying the love and respect that Kristina always preaches? This is a girl just starting out in the raw food youtube community and this is how Kristina decides to welcome her. She demanded (via your branding agency) that she remove some of her youtube videos because they violate or breach her copyright. I would strongly suggest everyone ask her about this until we get an answer or clarification from her. Take what you will from this. What I'm taking from this is that Kristina is definitely not the cute, sweet, loving person she makes everyone believe she is.
