Take the train they say. I was once asked to remove & dispose of the strings on my ukulele as they could be used as a garrotte. Watch out....the guy's got a ukulele ! Happy travels & warm arrivals to you.

Ahhhh .... the Eurostar. I nearly wasn't allowed back to the UK because I refused to take my medical emergency bracelet off.

In the future if something like this happens, don't hesitate to ask for a supervisor or even just another guard for a second opinion. People like this are often not actually acting on logic (even if they are spewing "logic" at you), but acting on their personal feelings; And often, simply asking for a second authority will make them change their mind because they know the second authority will likely disagree.

Without going into *too* much detail, I have had a lot more difficuly leaving the UK than re-entering. In my experience, we're just a lot more paranoid and a lot less laissez-faire then our continental cousins (?)...
