I probably camped in Ft DeSoto a dozen or so times growing up. It's an awesome campground. I remember a lot of thieving raccoons, snorkeling, and finding clams in the mud with our feet. Oh, and my folks and their friends getting loaded while hiding their beers and drinks in solo cups because alcohol wasn't allowed in the park.

My husband has been going there his entire life too. The racoons aren't nearly as bad as they used to be.

We were at Fort DeSoto about a week and a 1/2 ago.. We did not stay in the campground. Just visited the Fort for the day day. Super cool area.. Thanks so much for sharing cherry. Will be back to see more! Lynn and Danny

Keep trying, it's worth it! Pick a date and go online exactly 6 months to the day and you should be able to get a site. Good luck!

We love our big canopy because it gives us more coverage and goes over half of the camper too. We were just talking about trying the one on the camper sometime soon though.

Got up to when you were going to the Fort, but gotta go to work. I got to see a manatee down there too when I rented a kayak a while ago. Love the Fort not only because it's old and a part of history, but even if that doesn't appeal to you then it's a really good place to stop at and cool down if you are just walking around on a really hot summer day. Stays really cool inside some of those rooms. Alright gotta go.......will continue the vid a little later. Pretty cool that your daughter and her friend are there too. Oh....I think I saw something about a Glorious Day Adventure Bumper Sticker a while ago now.........are those still available?? Would love to grab one if they are.

Our camper is made by Runaway Camper. They are manufactured near Ocala, FL but they have dealers throughout the country if you aren’t in Florida. They aren’t very expensive either. We love ours!

Stayed at fort de Soto last fall. Got eaten alive by no see ums but we were back in the mangroves. Did you have issues with them in this spot?

No see ums are always bad at dusk but I don't recall them being bad at other times during our stay. It's one of our favorite campgrounds.
