LYRICS
Well I woke up to the sound of silence
The cars were cutting like knives in a fist fight
And I found you with a bottle of wine
Your head in the curtains
And heart like the Fourth of July
You swore and said
"We are not
We are not shining stars"
This I know
I never said we are
Though I've never been through hell like that
I've closed enough windows
to know you can never look back
If you're lost and alone
Or you're sinking like a stone
Carry on
May your past be the sound
Of your feet upon the ground
Carry on
Carry on, carry on
So I met up with some friends
at the edge of the night
At a bar off 75
And we talked and talked
about how our parents will die
All our neighbours and wives
But I like to think
I can cheat it all
To make up for the times I've been cheated on
And it's nice to know
When I was left for dead
I was found and now I don't roam these streets
I am not the ghost you want of me
If you're lost and alone
Or you're sinking like a stone
Carry on
May your past be the sound
Of your feet upon the ground
Carry on
Whoa
My head is on fire
But my legs are fine
After all they are mine
Lay your clothes down on the floor
Close the door, hold the phone
Show me how no one's ever gonna stop us now
Cause we are
We are shining stars
We are invincible
We are who we are
On our darkest day
When we're miles away
Sun will come, we will find our way home
If you're lost and alone
Or you're sinking like a stone
Carry on
May your past be the sound
Of your feet upon the ground
Carry on
Carry on, carry on
No one's ever gonna stop us now...

8 years ago, when this song came out, I had cancer and had been living with chronic illness and pain for 20 years. This song kept me alive. And has kept me alive, as I am facing cancer again. I came back to remind myself that I can always Carry On. Thank you Nate, for being you and sharing that golden voice with this Mesa lady you've kept alive and looking forward. ❤️

As someone who has struggled with depression for eleven years, hearing this song always gives me a boost. It's probably my favorite song because it's a constant reminder to keep going. If anyone happens upon this comment and is having a hard time, carry on, friend. There are better times ahead.

About five or six years ago I had an iPod1 with only ONE song (and I have no idea how it ended up on there, either), and it was Some Nights by FUN. Whenever I'd have road trips with my family, I'd play that song on a loop. For hours. I literally never got sick of it (even to this day, whenever I hear it!), so I know EXACTLY what you mean by not getting sick of this guy's voice. Thanks for reminding me of that!

Just an appreciation post about fun. They were the first band I fell in love with too. After hearing "We Are Young" from a car commerical in 2012, there was no turning back. Asking for Aim & Ignite and Some Nights for my birthday was the best decision I ever made. They were my first ever live concert. It crushed my heart when I heard about their so-called hiatus. When I heard Nate's "Nothing Without Love", I teared up hearing his voice again. It gave me hope. Seeing him in his Grand Romantic concert up close and personal was so memorable. But when he sang "Carry On" alone on stage, it was bittersweet. This songs means so much. Years passed, and I continue to fall in love with Jack's new music with now 3 Bleachers albums. Currently getting ready to go to Shadow of the City in a couple weeks and I know he will also play his acoustic version of "Carry On." With it's chorus sheet music tattooed on my arm, I will never forget this song, band, and my love for true music ♥️

This song came out when I was around 6, the world was new, music was my favorite thing in the world. I wish I could go back to those times, before I knew how harsh the world was, and before depression and other things hit my life, back when I wasn’t worried about disappointing my dad, back when I didn’t know how horrible my mom was. Takes me back to a safer time every time I hear this, reminds me to just carry on no matter how shitty this world gets.

It's hard to find.. 'true' artists, sure, Every music maker is good and well, but there are few that give you the full "WOW" moment.. This song is one of them.. The guy is one of them.

I am honestly impressed at his vocal skill. it's rare in this day for a singer to sound true to their studio music. simply amazing.

My entire life many people around me have died, nothing different from anyone else and I've never understood many deaths. My room mate / good friend, my team leader, and my commander, all three gone in one horrible night. The longer your serve in the military, the more people you know may die, many I knew by recognition and serving in the same unit and many who I've had conversations with now and again. You'd think after 24 years of service and 27 months of combat that you would be numb and have a new start but depression sets in hard and this song is one of a few that helps me to carry on...... even after losing my best friend since 13 years old and became my brother in-law, losing my younger brother, losing my mom, and losing my oldest son a year ago. Just found out that one of my best uncles had passed away a month ago. Life gets really tough... 54 years old with depression, anger, anxiety, arthritis, and the list goes longer.....but I just carry on.....carry on carry on.......

Well I woke up to the sound of silence the cars Were cutting like knives in a fist fight And I found you with a bottle of wine Your head in the curtains and heart like the fourth of July You swore and said we are not We are not shining stars This I know I never said we are Though I've never been through hell like that I've closed enough windows to know you can never look back If you're lost and alone Or you're sinking like a stone Carry on May your past be the sound of your feet upon the ground Carry on Carry on, carry on So I met up with some friends in the edge of the night At a bar off seventy five And we talked and talked about how our parents will die All our neighbors and wives But I like to think I can cheat it all To make up for the times, I've been cheated on And it's nice to know When I was left for dead I was found and now I don't roam these streets I am not the ghost you want of me If you're lost and alone or you're sinking like a stone, Carry on May your past be the sound of your feet upon the ground and Carry on Woah my head is on fire But my legs are fine After all they are mine Lay your clothes down on the floor Close the door Hold the phone Show me how No one's ever gonna stop us now 'Cause we are We are shining stars We are invincible We are who we are On our darkest day When we're miles away So we'll come, we will find our way home If you're lost and alone Or you're sinking like a stone Carry on May your past be the sound of your feet upon the ground and Carry on (No one's ever gonna stop us now) (No one's ever, no one's ever gonna stop, no one's ever gonna stop us now) (No one's ever, no one's ever gonna stop , no one's ever gonna stop) (No one's ever gonna stop us now)
