I don't wanna come off as that guy here, but that example is not even the best example of multitasking in the video. The 5 mallet marimba piece requires by far more coordination and mallet/hand independence than the simple rhythms you hear in little drummer boy. It just seems more like "multitasking" because he's on 2 different instruments. That said both are impressive, and the fact it comes so naturally and fluidly is the mark of a skilled percussionist.

If you want to play an instrument but can’t play the harmonica I recommend a xylophone, recorder, or ukulele. I would probably go for a kids xylophone in case you don’t like it because xylophones can get expensive. It’s also okay if you want to keep working at harmonica! 😉

Yes, it’s extremely easy to hit wrong notes on mallet percussion instruments because you can’t physically feel them. I have to practice very slowly to get consistent.

That’s awesome! Start watching videos on Burton, musser-Steven’s and traditional cross grip. Those are the three main ways of holding the mallets. I would suggest figuring out which one feels natural to start and eventually you can learn more about all three grips. Just take small steps at a time and you can pick it up!

As a vibraphone player, this man is a LEGEND. Perfect everything. The switch from Burton on Vibe to Stevens on Marimba was also extremely impressive! Also, the fact that this man can make 4 mallet AND 6 mallet is amazing. I have a friend who is going to be in DCI(Drum Corp International. The biggest outdoor band program in the world) soon, and she even struggles with holding 6 mallet, just showing this man's talent. You just earned a new subscriber. You deserve it!
