THAT is one of the most amazingly, awesome AND terrifying thing I have ever seen!! I am a Western NC native, I learned to swim in the Davidson River in the Pisgah National Forest, I thought “going swimming” meant going to the swimming hole at the river until my cousin took us to the swimming pool at the Elks Club one summer. Lol! We live close enough to go tubing at Davidson River 3 or 4 times a week to cool down after my dad got off work and I NEVER, EVER saw anything remotely as AMAZING as that snake eating that fish!! What an AWESOME lifelong memory!!! Y’all need to submit that footage to the NC Wildlife people!

Just a water snake! Probably a good idea to look up North Carolina venomous snakes, so you can identify them(with photos). The fish in his mouth? That's a good thing. They can't bite with food in their mouths! LOL!
@monamorgan86144 жыл бұрын
Deb Carpenter that’s what I was thinking too. The snakes are crawling out of their winter “nests”, which three of the deadly ones are copperhead, water moccasin and diamond back. By clearing the land you are likely to see many others as are wasps and hornets

I live in North Carolina a few hours from the Knorp family in the foothills of the mountains and our weather can change drastically throughout the day . In the “winter “ it can be down in the 20 degrees Fahrenheit overnight and in the morning and by noon it’s gotten up to the 60s. It can also plummet 40+ degrees from a high of in the 80s which is what happened on the beautiful warm days we had last week. This is especially common whenever it rains. I am a retired elementary school teacher and a parent and picking out what to wear can be a challenge with our crazy weather combined with the heating and cooling system in the school building. The only thing I miss where we live is the lack of snow. We occasionally get snow , but mostly we get a wintry mix of snow and freezing rain that coats everything with ice and can be quite deadly outside and inside because the electricity goes off and many don’t have heat or a way to cook. I wish that we got more decent snowfalls of more than 6 inches more often.

The snake is not a cotton mouth or water moccasin because it doesn’t have a yellow tail. It’s either a Brown water snake or a Northern brown water snake neither one is dangerous. I love what you have done in the woods. Would love to see you do more with the teepee sewing triangular panels of the canvas drop cloth would help you create a proper cover for it and then the kids could paint designs on the outside. Put a plastic tarp inside the teepee with the plastic going up on the inside of the poles to keep water out. This is the kind of things I did as a child with my siblings,parents and friends. We had woods on three sides of our neighborhood that separated it from a number of farms. Over time most of the farms were sold and new neighborhoods were developed, but a large section of our neighborhood was kept wooded behind some houses in the lower part and behind the lake and ball fields and community clubhouse and pool. Our neighborhood was once a large farm with an orchard and the main road into it was actually the street I lived on and much of the street that wasn’t part of the neighborhood was still a large wooded area with the occasional house. Depending on the weather we could take a shortcut through the woods to get to school otherwise you just followed the sidewalks because the back gate to the playground was at the end of the block one street over.
