Labor Day weekend 2024 was an interesting weekend for the wine train. It originally started with 1864 powering the lunch and dinner trains like most other weekends. Everything was normal on Aug 31st for the dinner train but after 1864 ran around the train at Rutherford, it had an air issue and couldn’t take the dinner train back to Napa. This called for FPA-4s #70 and #72 to rescue it and take the train back to Napa. The next day, both FPA-4s made an appearance on the lunch train and I couldn’t miss out on that. Rare incidents like these prove that even though the wine train is more focused on running their KLW, they still have a use for the FPA-4s and will until they get their remaining new locomotives. The next 2 are supposed to arrive in 2025 and the last one in 2026, but only time can tell when they will actually arrive. But for now, the FPA-4s still continue to serve the wine train from time to time and we need to enjoy them while we still can. With all that said, grab some popcorn and enjoy the show!
