The “radar” exercise here must be exactly how stud finders find wooden studs behind drywall, then, and why they require a 9-volt battery instead of just two AA batteries!

you know i never noticed that until you pointed that out and I went and checked all mine and sure enough they all have 9V's. the oldest i have is the late 80s the newest is 2012.

The stud finders do not use RF (not any I have seen). Stud finders are basically metal detectors which find the studs, or screws and nails.

Old ones use magnets to detect metal in the studs such as nails, most common ones use capacitance differential generated by density difference, newer ones use radar.

Alan was a little confused there throughout .. I was hoping Mr. Wizard would show music freq. shift by fwd and rev acceleration of his target plate. It'd do so I'd think. They had speed radar back then for sure. Absolutely loved the show, saw many 1st run, I'm that old!
