You don't go to Madeira for shops, pubs etc. It's a real Portuguese working city. A place to stay. You need to go to Funchal cable car, Monte above, the toboggan run, Funchal botanical gardens, Funchal Pico Fort views of city, mountain views, and trips. Cristo Rei, statue like Rio . Nearby Camara Da Lobo, beautiful fishing village, where Churchill went. Nearby Cabo Girao, the second largest cliff in the world and amazing views of Funchal. The scenery is rugged and stunning. You need to leave the streets at the front. Go to the Farmers tropical fruit and fish market in Funchal where the produce is unique. Its amazing mountain views. Natural beauty. Go for trips round island. High mountain passes, tiered farms, valleys, ravines, levada irrigation walks.

Love Funchal, it's a classy place so different to Tenerife or Lanzarote and attracts a nice type of tourist. It really isn't the place to go if you want to sit in a theme pub or a showbar for the entirety of your holiday. Does rain a lot though! Way more than the Canaries and can be quite chilly at times. Also the approach to Madeira Airport is (not) fun in strong winds. Know quite a few people who flew to Madeira from the UK and couldn't land - and had to fly all the way back home again.

Hi Kevin no doubt it is a nice place but the winter weather is far less certain than Tenerife or Gran Caneria and cooler as well but for a city break sometime. Maybe that's the best offer i can put forward. By Kevin. David😮

Stopped there when I was on a cruise last year, took the cable car up the hill which is good. It's an ok place,nice to visit for a few days maybe.

Kev massive culture SHOCK for many. Been here several times, love it. Cannot compare to ANY spanish resorts for the RAZZ. Has you just said total relax. Would still recommend. !!!

It does look nice kevin ,we had same feeling when going down to los cristianos, it was dull and some rain ,with bitvof chill and wecjustvwanted to get back to PS 4 😂 so weagher does affect judgement when you don't know an area

Head up to the 'Hole In One' / 'Chalet Vincent' area. Once you get up to that level it is quite flat, take the bus 01, 02 or 04 from the old town according to google maps. Continue walking along past the excellent 'PVP - Pão, Vinho e Petiscos' restaurant. Lots of good hotels up that end, we stayed in the Cliff Bay Hotel which is worth a video. The fish market is definitely worth a visit. As is the area just inland from the skate park.

Seen many videos from the Island and now yours, possibly a place for a weekend. Definitely not a place for a weeks holiday for me that is, doubt l will ever go. Although it looks classy in fairness, just far to quiet for me 😁

Glad you are enjoying Funchal, it is without doubt a pretty classy place. We had a week there in February a few years ago, and as you say there is very little to do in the evenings. It's one of only two places I was desparate to leave, the other being Bulgaria. You should not be on holiday and be looking forward to going home!
