Fantastic insight - thank you so much. As a functional integrative practitioner with a background in PT/Nutrition etc, and suffering my own chronic pain for last few years - Ive been wanting to do FP (and become a practitioner). This has helped articulate how the 10 week program runs and a great reminder that when learning, put what you already know aside and be open to learning new things. I look forward to seeing you in the DOERs group.

Great point of view, explained it very well, can’t reiterate how much he’s right about trying to assess things on your own. I wish I would have done that a lot more before I started training with a trainer. Nobody can learn about your body more than yourself! Take the 10 week online course serious and learn about your problems and try to fix them and you will Jump levels quicker if you do end up moving forward with a trainer.

Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. To answer your question, I think it comes down to the fact that FP challenges all conventional rehab and training practices. Top fitness influencers that know of FP either find it offensive or struggle with the idea of letting go of conventional training and rehab methods. The physio and medical profession are governed by peer reviewed research studies to validate their positions… FP doesn’t seem interested in doing such studies as they are often misleading, instead they focus on results that are visible and ‘anecdotal’ if you will. Essentially anyone in the business of health and fitness, who knows of FP and hasn’t adopted it is probably weighing up the idea of changing their business strategy to orient around a different system. Doing that has got financial implications if done badly to a fitness business that sells generic rehab or PT programmes. For me it was a tough two years to switch from regular PT to FP. Now it is awesome… Unfortunately the reality is that FP requires a lot of client learning and practice - hence the term ‘practitioners’ because the more we practice the more we learn. It’s also not a sexy thing to sell to someone who wants a quick solution or who wants to simply tick a box and carry on about their day. A physio will give you treatment for a symptom and a PT will give you a programme to help you achieve your goals. As an FP practitioner I challenge my clients to learn, practice and develop skills and exercises that address their system and not their symptoms to help create lasting change. So I guess, when the fitness world becomes more open to change then it will become more ‘mainstream’. I hope that makes sense 🙌🏻

Thanks for commenting and watching. It’s best to halt all other exercise whilst working through the course. It’s like an elimination diet to rule out allergies. Every person will have asymmetries and tendencies when they move. The 10 week course sets out to correct imbalances but when we go and walk, run or take part in other fitness activities our muscles will still orient around the old behaviours. It takes time to rewrite those pathways and so the best results come from putting a pin in everything else… Might not be what everyone wants to hear but it has been the only thing that worked for me and many other people who transitioned to FP. Hope that helps 🙌🏻

Hey there, Thanks for reaching out and watching the video. The answer would probably be to talk with a practitioner either face to face or online and have some form of assessment. (I can’t speak for most practitioners out there because I don’t know how they run their businesses). Most will offer some form of consultation. Given what you’ve said, It would likely be better for you to have guidance through the 10 week course rather than go at it alone. I work with lady with a similar lumbar scoliosis and we work very slowly through some of the 10 week material and the change in her body has been incredible. How does your body respond to exercise and walking if / when you do it? Also, how does the scoliosis play out with pain ?

Hey mate, thanks for the video, what are your thoughts on running the 10 week course concurrently with my other training? would it be wiser in your opinion to just focus on the 10 weeks by itself?
@rawmotionfitness
@rawmotionfitness Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! 😉 Best results with the 10 Weeks is to stop doing everything and focus on the work in the course. I tried to do it along side training and it didn’t work because I had so many imbalances. Everyone will have asymmetries, some more than others, those asymmetries will be patterned into your muscles and fascia. In order to ‘reset’ then resting from usual activists is the best way to see the best results 👍🏻🙏🏻 Hope that helps.

Thank you very much for the inforrmation, Brendan! This is so down to earth, since you addressed my indecision about buying the program very precisely. It's good to hear analyses that don't come from FP itself. In my case, I am a very active person and enjoy very much practicing sports, however, no sport has ever managed to really correct my posture imbalances, which I am very aware of (kyphosis, scoleosis). Given that, here's the question: Is it viable to do the 10 week course without interrupting other kinds of training (ex. swimming, running)? How many times a week do you have to train per week in order for it to be effective enough? I feel like sometimes FP is way too proud of itself and doesn't refer to the practice of other sports, and of course, if I take the course, it is because in the end I wish not only to feel better, but to improve in sport related areas, without having to leave them. Thanks again for your video! Cool edit by the way

Hey man! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment… Great questions too. I think the level of how far you go with FP depends on how dysfunctional your body is… In my case, it was my ONLY option because nothing else had worked to address my spine and muscles. I’ve been at FP exclusively for 3 years and it has been a hard slog to work through my issues, what it does mean is that I am in a better place now where I can go and play golf or go for a run if I want to. I started out by immersing myself in the course every day and trying to do other things but the problem with that is that I could spend 1-5 hours a week on FP and then go for a run and undo the correctives because I have had a lifetime where I have always run with compensations… Unfortunately there is no perfect recipe of ‘how much FP’ to do. You have to think that FP needs time to embed itself in your mechanics so that when you swim or run you don’t fall back into old habits… I hope that makes sense? I train 4 days a week at the moment.

I’m recovering from Posterior Tibialis Tendonitis. It’s not as severe as some have it - can I start the FP Program now or wait until it’s completely resolved? Background… I need help with my gait and have halted all training and treat as instructed, but only improved for a time and end up with it happening over and over again.
@rawmotionfitness
@rawmotionfitness Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment and watching. I’m sorry to hear about your tendonitis… If you can walk and stand without too much aggravation the course will be fine. The only dynamic movements that involve a part of gait are in week 10. Be mindful on the MFR work (first 3 weeks) the calf releases might be something to avoid if it creates problems… It might be worth asking for further thoughts on the FP Doers group on Facebook as there will likely be a Practitioner who has experience with posterior tibialis tendonitis… Equally I offer help getting going with the 10 week course on my website. 🙌🏻

Hey Brendon, great vido. Thanks for posting. I have been wanting to do the FP 10 week course but I live in a house with minimal space. It looks like some of the movements are quite comples and reqiure some room. How much space is needed to do the 10 week course? Also, what kind of equipment would i need? I only have kettlebells at home where i usually train. Thanks and Happy New Year!
@rawmotionfitness
@rawmotionfitness Жыл бұрын
Hey there, Happy New Year and thank you for taking the time to comment and ask questions. I will be making a video about equipment and space for the 10 week course soon so please do stick around on the channel for that. With regards to the space you will need, from weeks 1-8 I would say that you would need about 6 feet x 4 feet of room maximum. The first 3 weeks are MFR and done on a yoga matt. Cable work / resistance band work is where you will likely need to get more creative with your space. That being said I work with several online clients who have small rooms and offices and they cope really well with most of the 10 week programming. Week 9 and 10 you will need access to resistance bands and or a cable stack. This might require more length in your room. maybe up to 6 feet... I hope that helps.

Thank you for this video! I have been following FP for awhile now. I’m finally feeling nearly ready to take on a new training style. I have contacted a FP training near me but wondering - do you reccomend doing the 10-week course before starting with a trainer? Will I get more out of training after this foundational course?
@rawmotionfitness
@rawmotionfitness Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching the video and I’m glad it helped… My experience with the 10 week course is that it will aid in any work with a practitioner but probably won’t be necessary. Some practitioners won’t work with people unless they have done the course but I’ve only seen a few of them say that. It all comes down to what your issues are, how much you understand about the human body already, and how much you can take on board. FP is very much a learning experience than it is a training system. If you really want the results you have to immerse yourself in the learning process so the more tools you can have available for that, the better.

I would suggest trying to find help from a practitioner in Functional Patterns at HBS4 - I believe in that level they have done some advanced work on head and neck positions. That being said, I work with several clients who have neck issues and the 10 week course material is very helpful in week 3 and 4 for how the head, pelvis and ribcage are positioned.

This was good to hear without having to part with a couple hundred quid. I’m interested in the benefits outside FP. You said things keep getting better over 3 years and your pain has gone but how does that translate to measurement in numbers in athleticism or conventionally-measured strength? Has anyone ever done that?
@rawmotionfitness
@rawmotionfitness Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for commenting. I would imagine that there is some testing going on out there. I don't know what FP are testing behind the scenes. If I talk from my experience. I don't do any 'traditional' training for running and my gait cycle has improved on a number of metrics. 1. The balance between ground contact time on both my feet when I run. 2. My speed in certain distances has improved. 3. My breathing and VO2 max has increased to a the level I was when I was training 6 days a week. I only train 3 times at most per week now... Those are the metrics I am worried about personally. From a strength perspective I am lifting and leveraging heavier weights as a result of being more connected... I wouldn't go as far as to say that I have tested it per se... Would you like to see a video where I share some of those data points that I have collected?

Fibromyalgia isn’t an illness. It’s an “I don’t know” term given to a series of twists through the body that most doctors don’t have the experience to undo. It usually takes someone who has surmountable experience with biomechanics. Arguing it can’t be helped is a pretty poor position to create an argument.

Why are nearly every single before and after photo taken by FP folks..staged? The picture at 13:00 is not a natural stance in either before or after....you standing there talking with your shirt on was a more natural stance...
@rawmotionfitness
@rawmotionfitness Жыл бұрын
You are correct in a way. Both pictures are progress pictures of physique changes. FP, as a company, are conscious of this type of feedback and in my testimonial video that will be on their page soon, you will see a more ‘natural’ stance. The intention of the ‘staged’ pictures is to help the viewer understand the ratio change in structure in a more conscious standing position. Simplistically put - both pictures were taken whilst I was holding a more active pose. I don’t set out to take pictures to share on the internet, though it may seem that way, I take the ‘staged’ pictures to assess what needs to happen with my training next and where things can improve. I’ll be sure to include those newer more natural pictures in the next FP videos I do. Ultimately, the most important thing for me to get across to the viewer is understanding the success rate of well applied FP in pain and rehabilitation in the industry. I hope that clarifies my intention behind sharing those images, though I can’t speak for other FP folks…

What if finances are an actual problem. What if someone’s in a lot of pain but they’re not making a lot of money right now. And they don’t have a lot extra to spare. $197 can be considered a lot of money, Especially in this economy. To say that if someone doesn’t have that much money, that just means they have some underlying psychological issues is kind of disingenuous.
@rawmotionfitness
@rawmotionfitness Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment and I took some time to reflect on what you said and also re-watched my video. With reference to the psychological issues and the notion of being disingenuous... I was referring to the state of mind that I was in and have been in in the past when faced with a solution to a problem. With change there is always a level of cognitive dissonance. I am a firm believer in a 'possibility' mindset - whilst that might sound a bit 'woowoo' it is the notion that if there is a drive to improve there is a possibility to make it happen. No matter the odds. As a society this happens all the time. People want a new iphone and they figure out how to get access to the funds to make it happen. Even if they are in debt. There may not be a lot of options for someone with chronic pain, but there is always bound to be one. At least that is the way I like to think of it... If that is seen as disingenuous or if that didn't come across well in the video then that was not my intent. 🙏🏻
