I think that many of the far right extremists holding the flag at protests and acting like they love their country and then attacking minorities and the government and trashing what our country stands for is the issue. They want to associate the flag with hate for anything that does not fit into their ultra white nationalist view of what America should be. But in this instance I do agree the pro Palestinian protesters should not be touching the American flag in this way. Although they have a free speech right that does not extend to defacing an American flag that belongs to the University.

Probably best practice not to generalize any country as a whole with loving or not loving, considering they are all comprised of multitudes of individuals and laws/policies. Something to consider about Israel, if one can set aside questionable military tactics for a moment, is that it is the only governance in the whole middle east that tolerates things like free speech, ethnic and religious diversity, or women's rights. All things which the majority of Israel's critics also espouse while siding with countries which have no governing interest in such civil pursuits whatsoever. There are probably things you love about Israel, just like there are probably things you don't love about America.

That is not true at all. We could stop sending billions of dollars to Israel and propping up a xenophobic regime.
