Tie Dye Designs: Reverse Dyeing a Rayon Dress (Using Out White Brite)

This tutorial is for teal dress that I reverse dyed by removing part of the color using Out White Brite. I then used some purple and blue dyes to ice dye the dress. If you've watched some of my recent reverse dye videos, this is the dress that turns blue in the Out White Brite.

Very pretty.❤ I really appreciate you including photos of the dress both lying flat and hanging on the mannequin. With dresses especially,it’s hard to tell what it looks like on when it’s lying flat. The mannequin really lets you get a feel for how it will look on a person.

Thank you! I agree, it is nice to see the dress flat and on a mannequin. I think it is hard to see the entire design when it is on the mannequin. I think the mannequin gives a feel though for how the dress will look on and how it will hang when it is worn. This dress is really soft and flowy and I think the mannequin shots show that really well.

I love it! I agree it's tie dye magic the way the colors are randomly applied over the ice and yet they group in an organized fashion in the end. I love dying on rayon. I've always had vibrant great dyes when working with rayon.

I recently tie dyed teal work shirts for my coworkers. I used 2 different dark blues and a yellow from dharma trading company. Teal was such a great color to work with when tie dyeing. Thank you for your video, it was very validated to me be, I am so very new to tie dyeing

When you say you wash with a little bit of Dharma's professional textile detergent, about how much do you use? I'm trying not to use too much when doing both the reverse items and my final hot water washes. Thanks!!!

I usually use about 1/4 cup per load. My washer is a high efficiency high capacity top loading machine, and I usually wash quite a few items together. I think Dharma suggests using 1/8 of a cup if you have a front loading machine.

Yes, I did! Procion fiber reactive dyes work great on rayon. 😀

Would it be better to senuw the dress dry? My lady wants a black dress reverse dyed for Oliver Anthony concert next Friday. I just made a trough out of gutter long enough to ice dye this dag gone thing.

I've heard that it is safer to tie rayon when it is dry, so I think that would be a good idea. I hope she loves her dress! 😀
