I think that the 4th stanza is the Creation story in reverse. Sometime after Day 4 (or even Day 4), God created the stars too. (and it was good). Day 4- He created the sun and the moon. (and it was good). Day 3, He separated the waters and created the oceans (and it was good). "Sweep up the woods"--- get rid of that Garden. "For nothing, now, can ever come to any good. If there is no creation---- God has no reason for saying anything is Good. Also.....1st stanza.... Stop ALL the clocks (stop time)....Cut off THE telephone (His soul could no longer communicate with his loss love's soul).... PREVENT the dog from barking (Dogs sense parting spirits-- and they bark as the departed loved one spirit leaves) ---with a juicy bone (to distract the dog from the parting spirit).
