Married Asian male here, currently with a kid and in my late 30s. I agree that having kids help unify couples into getting married. However Ive also noticed my cohort getting married for religious reasons, as well as financial (same health insurance, legal bindings, and other government benefits). I do feel that the culture of dating is very much disposable and trending towards instant gratification nowadays... In other words, if the person your dating isn't fitting the bill, folks just move on to the next cat that can....

@@swampityswamp sorry to tell you but these systems have pressures of what you described it's not FORCED but once you understand that there is a SOCIETAL stigma on STAYING EVEN THOUGH THINGS may not be great. GUESS WHAT HAPPENS.....abuse in many forms or a few forms and NOT NECESSARYILY NOTICED BY FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND THIS ABUSE can be displayed by either the husband or wife. How I know about arranged marriages is because (a) I worked for 5 years as family divorce court paralegal and lived in a place where arranged marriages were the norm. It's deep and IF America was to ever go to this system. Well......all kinds of issues could come from that INVOLVING NOT JUST THE 2 people in the marriage but a lot of times people forget COUPLES have extended families and family members who don't know how to mind their business. It's sad but I've ran across cases where the wife in one instance was mortally wounded and the in one instance where a husband was to be framed for ☠️💀☠️(*you guessed it) because the wife wanted out.

@@swampityswamp I think it has to do more with the fact that arranged marriages, will almost always be arranged within the same class of people... Mothers and fathers will not wed their son or daughter to some poor losers. So the looks are not as highly regarded in arranged marriages, but other common things are important, like class, education level, and other things that the parents search and look for matches.... It actually makes perfect sense why arranged marriages last longer than regular western marriages. Because people make these decisions with their hearts , love and that high feeling of being with someone you want to be with. But we all know that never lasts.... Once that is gone are the common traits, and the class you live in, your house, your comfort, your ability to purchase things and be provided for.

In dating, men have to lose for women to win and women have to lose for men to win. This leads to an endless power struggle OR a situation where one party gets completely exploited by the other. Even when a middle ground is found.. the pendulum is constantly swinging as each side tries to get another inch on the other. Bisexual black man in his early 30s here. I think there's nothing wrong with guys wanting short term relationships it's just how they carry themselves in them that's the problem. If you want short term because you like dating different kinds of people and you find it fun and enjoyable but you don't want anything long term then you have to be very honest about that and not misrepresent yourself to your perspective partners. I think this can work but guys have to stand firm in their convictions about what they want and trear the other person's feeling with care and responsibility. If either is having deeper feelings or growing more emotionally dependent in the relationship then we need to normalize checking in with each other and be honest about where we are emotionally. I feel like most media has kinda fucked up this approach and turned it into the friends with benefits turned full relationship trope or the relationship skeptic character turned relationship purist or advocate tropes. They make it seem like you can't be emotionally available or open with a short term or fwb relationship otherwise you give them false hope. If your someone who only wants one thing then you need to stay in that conviction and not play games, so dating apps for serious or semi serious dating need to be for those people only and hookups/short term daters need to stick to their prospective apps and also stop creating these gross judgments about either side. It feels like a woman wanting short term dating is inly acceptable after a breakup or she's really into her career. But for men it feels like we always get judged for it because some guys don't act right when they do it so the rest of us catch their strays.

The thing is, if you look at actual married couples, the men aren't 6 ft making 6 figures and the women aren't quirky hourglasses either. They are normal people in healthy stable relationships. And in dating, I think there are a lot of people who aren't mentally healthy or are going in for the wrong reasons or with the wrong expectations. For example, men get jaded because “women have high standards” when women on their level (hate that usage) are practically invisible to them and they only see the 8+ who aren't interested. They’re looking for “good women” (also hate this term) in clubs, bars, and dating apps instead of libraries, clubs, or sports (when I say all of this I don’t mean go to get dates, I mean doing things you like and you happen to meet someone. That’s a very common way people get married because it creates a genuine connection based on a shared love and mutual, healthy respect.) People are now wired to view relationships in terms of dating and not long term commitment. Dating apps are built on shallowness. Being someone’s physical type is what gets you swipes, hence the increased attention to appearances. People have always been shallow but that quality is no longer as shameful in the mind and in real life.

@octaviawinter9768 you bring up a big problem with dating in the west, which is that many women will be ran through by chads and then will want a more traditional, less promiscuous relationship with a "regular" guy that they want to lock down for marriage. The problem is that this might work on beta losers, but men with alpha personality characteristics that women find attractive won't accept women who do this. The source of these problems is cultural. In the west, sexual immorality is normalized, but in the middle east, where my wife is from, women are shamed for engaging in this type of behavior.
