this was by far the best video I seen on KZbin about fungus gnats. it's the same stuff over and over again. I don't know if it's cuz people aren't does not allow KZbinrs I mean you'd think there'd be a lot of people growing plants. anyways this was the best, most realistic real info formation video. how is appreciate that

Thanks for the helpful info , your the first person to give me real information about fungus nats, it’s good to know that the apple cider vinegar trick dose not work because I have been doing it off and on for a few months with no success. I never new that fungus nats are not attracted to the same smells as fruit flys, I always thought oh there a fruit fly because they hang around my fruit or oh there a fungus nat because they hang around my plants. 😮💨 😃it feels good to actually get real information. I especially like how you explain and show us the difference between the flys super helpful.

Absolutely knowledgeable video for me, I used organic apple cider vinegar yesterday & today with a couple of drops of dishe washing soap, but naaaahhhh, I need to have a closer look what they are before I try to get rid of them, thank you for this AMAZING video.

Your videos are perfectly presented, thank you. My solution (in the UK): As the eggs are laid in wet surface soil, I cover and seal the earth with a good layer of tiny stones used in fish tanks, which stops the flies reaching soil and hence the cycle. I also regularly lightly spray the saucer underneath the plant with pot plant pest killer.

I use Play Sand from the local lowes. Cover the top of any potted plant with Play Sand and they do not repopulate anymore. Easy and cheapest solution ever.

I just learned about NEEM CAKE. It is a pelleted form of neem that you make a tea with and water your plants. Extremely effective!

Pot poppers nematodes work well for me. Mosquito dunks work equally for me at a lower cost.

Tiny pebbles used for fish tanks on top of the earth stops gnat entry and eggs, and houseplant insect killer in saucer under plant solves flies.

Great video! I have a biting fly in my house that is as small or smaller than gnats. From what I can tell they may be No-see-ums. Do you have any recommendations for how to get rid of those? - Thank you in advance.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I’m going for the sand method but I have a question. If I already have eggs in the soil and I trap them from both sides, what is stopping them from becoming adults and repeating the cycle without flying outside? They have food, water and limited but probably enough air to survive.

Also thank you. I've had an acute outbreak of small flies zig zag flying around my home, ( kitchen, at night watching TV, and my study). We have had a sudden burst of heat here in Australia = perfect conditions. Well I had to research - research - research. All my drains have had 2 pots of boiling water poured down them, yet, in the morning these tiny flies are driving me crazy. I checked my plants this am and all appear to by dry ATM, ( will hold off from watering). I'm looking at sprinkling food grade DE over all my plants & using the yellow sticky traps. I'm on a mission for my sanity 😵😉

This gnats be on everything, they come an crash on my food, my drink, that’s why now I’m traumatized lol, I have to triple check my drink and my food. They come in my nose, my ears and poke me in the eye. I love plants and I had to repot everything, I tried everything and nothing, my plants stopped growing so that’s when I started searching about those gnats I didn’t even knew how it was called until I search; “flies that be around plants” lol, and I did found two videos with this so I’m going to try it. My elephant ear plant is full and I have it on a big pot inside and its just too heavy and a lot of work so quarantine it is. I did buy those yellow sticking things and it catch a lot, now there is less gnats, and took all plants outside to repot them, one time I was checking the soil and I did see too many clear larvae wiggling around and quickly panic and put most of my plants in water. I be keeping a yellow sticker with me where ever I sit so when I see a gnat flying around me I catch it, “gnat on the lose” 🤣 Thank you so much for the informative video, it helps a lot! Let see how it goes

Happy new Year Robert five of my worm bins are in total invasion of fungus gnats, all the other bins are unaffected, I feed every worm bin the same way, feed them every week, lightly spray with water only when the soil is dry and cover it with shredded cardboars. I have tried cider vinegar and soap, hydrogen peroxide, neem oil, what seems to be working a bit is the yellow sticky pads. The situation is getting worse as the days goes by, would you have a solution? thanks for your help, Phil

Not sure what is safe for the worms, but the yellow sticky cards certainly reduce numbers.

We have a problem right now at my job with Nats in the Security Station. I don't know why they are here. We don't keep fruit or plants in the Security Station. What are they?

If you don't have soil they are not fungus gnats.

I got a 2-pk mosquito dunks to try but the only instruction I found was for pools or ponds. For indoor potted plants how much water do I use to dissolve one donut also, can I keep the solution for a couple o weeks if I can't finish it in one sitting? Do I need to soak the soil? Thank you in advance.
@Gardenfundamentals12 жыл бұрын
I'd get a pail of water and put 1/4 of a donut into it, and then water with that.

@@Gardenfundamentals1 ok now that’s amazing 🤩 I have only seen the dunks here in Canada and now I need to try this because I think that they will be a better option then what I am using right now even though what I am doing works

DE needs to stay dry to work. It might get a few flies if the leaves are covered with it, but useless on or in soil as many suggest.

Drain flies look like moths because that's what they actually are. Not really a "fly". The dead giveaway is the antenna and how they fly.
