Awesome how to and what to look for, difference between grub and fungus issues. Very helpful.

Super helpful video! Thank you thank you! Didn't know how to tell difference and we definitely have fungus but I was treating for grubs. Also didn't realize I needed to cut the grass a little longer in the hot summer months.

My turf was only planted 14 months ago. It’s spongy just like you said of the area that you pulled up. Sure would like to know what is real cause. Did a dethatching and airating in the April, re seeded and top dressed all to no avail. Still very patchy with lots of thatch and some green grass. Very slow growth in spite of fertilizer and nitrogen applied last fall. We got lots of rain here on the Westcoast of BC. I dug up a number of spots today June 16/ 2024 and no visible grubs. I feel like putting down concrete lol 😂

TEXANS QUICK GRASS GUIDE For St. Augustine Grass: A sure sign of grubs feeding on your grass roots isn't the grass its self but rather the presence of June-bugs. Those grubs are the larva stage of the dumb flying beetle that flys into e everything at night. Note: A large population of wasp are also a sign of grub infestation because the eat June-bugs. Thats why you'll see wasp and yellow jackets hanging around the house. Fungus: Signs of Fungus are yellow leafs, silk like film on the ground. Large brown circles is Brown patch . Many small spots are dollar spot. Melting Out fungus appears as yellowing blades sometimes purple. (Dont confuse the purple leaf as it can be a sign of cold stress at beginning of Spring) Use high strength Fungicides to stop fungus. If you have fugus always use a liquid with a sticky surfactant mixed in to coat grass blades. Antifungus Granuls are a preemergent to treat soil this will not cure the plague already on the blades of grass. You need at least 2 different "GROUPS" of fungicide to swap to prevent resistance from building up to the chemicals. Fungicides need to be on the grass blades for 3-8 days to work. Don't apply before rain. Don't water the grass for 7 days. Reapply after 7-14 days if no results. Group 1: Thiophanate-methyl or Clearys 3336F Scotts diseasex Group 3: propiconazole Group 7: fluxapyroxad (xzemplar) Group 11: azoxystrobin Group 3 and group 11 are naturally rotated fungicides Headway G: group 3 , group 11 Becareul of over Fertilizing grass with fungus issues. Melting out fungus feeds on the nitrogen in fertilizer. Beware of over watering! This combine with heat and too much nitrogen will create a perfect conditions for fungus 1-2-3-2-1 watering technique: In April water 1 day/week. In May ramp up to 2 times/week. In the heat of the summer water 3 times/week. In September drop back to 2 times/week. In fall drop down to 1/per week

He showed blades of grass damaged which means fungus. Also when he pulled on the grass, its roots held it there, again showing it wasnt grubs. So its a fungus

Did he even mention grubs? If so, I must have missed it.

@@clbudd If the grass had pulled up easily it would be grubs. It did not pull up so he concluded it was a disease issue.

I can sum this up rather quickly. If you can pull up the turf like loose carpet, it's grub damage, as grubs feed on the roots. If the turf is stressed due to poor soil and/or too much rain, humidity and heat, along with low mowing, it's going to die. If the lawn is maintained at 3 1/2 inches or more, it will crowd out weeds. And policing your lawn, and hand pulling, rather than pouring fungicides on it, will control crab grass, especially in the early season. And, aerate your lawn every fall.. In the end, as some horticulturalists have said, lawns are a dead zone - bereft of diversity. Have you ever seen a meadow that had grub or fungus damage? I have turf, and I am adding clover to my lawn. Clover fixes nitrogen, which is beneficial to turf grass, is disease and heat resistant. The fantasy of a perfect lawn is just that. High maintenance with all the fertilizer and chemicals poured onto a lawn is harmful; to creeks and rivers, and environmentally, is just bad practice, Re-seeding every fall is like the definition of insanity. I've been gradually reducing my area of turf over the years.

Speak for yourself. Having the "perfect" lawn is attainable with the right knowledge and application of those harmful and deadly fertilizers and chemicals you pour onto the lawn. I'm assuming you don't drive a car? Use electricity? Cell phone? Wear anything made of leather? Use anything made of plastic? You built your home from mud and grass and cook your meat that you killed with your home made bow and arrow over an open flame? Come on dude lol. I have bermudagrass and it looooves the heat and being cut short. Completely sprayed my lawn with MSMA, good fertilizer plan with humichar, grub and pest control, deep watering once a week to promote deep water growth and cut it every 2 or 3 days at 1" and it looks like a putting green. Quite simple and easily attainable for that "perfect" lawn.
