Hola Funimag, buenas tardes. Que buen video. Me gusto mucho.

Funimag

I just wonder why they ended up building a funicular instead of a cable car. 🤔

Historically Stoos was first accessible by funicular since 1933. That funicular was closed in 2017. Stoos decided to build a new funicular with a more direct route. They made the choice of a steep funicular... the steepest of Europe! They could have made an aerial cable car or a funicular entirely in a tunnel with a constant and lesser slope. They made the most daring choice. Now people come from all over the world to see this unique funicular in the world!!! For my opinion I still regret the old funicular which was very impressive with real sensations. The new funicular is like a lift... no sensations at all!

I have been there so many times and followed this project with interest from the start of it. The reason they chose this above a 3s seilbahn is that Stoos needs a way to transport materials and goods to the village. From the trash to building materials. All was transported already via the old one. And during winter times its a challenge over the small not available road. A 3s seilbahn has its limitations and it became very difficult to implement a transport for goods aswell. Then there is the reason that Stoos needed a reliable connection. Even a 3s seilbahn needs to be shut down from time to time during extreme winds. Then the village is cutoff. All combined a funicular was the only option. The old track was good but difficult to get safe during heavy snowfall. Many times the old line had to be closed for this reason. They also wanted the line to end more central into the village. Less transport is needed so the village still feels "carfree". Besides of this the funicular and the new hotel almost attached to it combined a massive touristic (economic Stoos really needed this) boost during winter and definitely during summer. All combined this funicular has proven to be a really good and reliable choice. Although Stoos lost its small silent feeling over the last 35 years I remember coming there, this funicular is a smart move over a cable car. And @funimag, I do miss the old route. The sound of the metal cable over the wheels is something ill never forget. You still enter a completely different world once you come out the tunnel with this funicular.

@sebrassino Thank you for your comment. Concerning the capacity of a 3S cable car to transport freight there are many exemples which show that it is possible (Bettmeralp, Mürrenbahn... both are car free village). Braunwald decided to keep its funicular instead to install a new 3S cable car. My main question is why they did not choose the solution of a all tunnel funicular with a constant slope arriving at the same top station? Is it to have the steepest funicular? Is it because it is less expensive to have less tunnels? I remember they had many big difficulties and more expensive as planed to build the actual Stoosbahn. i am quite sure the all tunnel solution would have been less expensive and with less technical problems. Anyway the old Stoosbahn was my favorite all time funicular and I still regret it. The new Stoosbahn is more mediatic and known all around the world because of its 110% slope ans this is why there are more people coming to Stoos. On my KZbin account I have some videos of the old Stoosbahn Cheers 😉

Puppy's, dogs bark when they're home, outside, taking them for a walk, in the car, when they're playing, and so and so on. 😂
