Wild theory here the way black talks he was the last “fushi” and is now molding fushi to take his place

I read ahead of the manga and honestly I'm not sure that's the case. I think he's the closest thing to a god in their world. He has limits but he seems to have started life on Earth. He can create new animals if he wanted to. Fushi can't create life he can only replicate it. I mean he can have offspring but he can't create life out of thin air.

This episode sparked a theory in me: Mr Black (Or Beholder as the manga calls him) wants Fushi to be his successor so that he will cease to be. Mr Black goes back in time, creates Fushi, sends him on his way. Fushi eventually (note - havent read the manga or seen season 3) becomes Mr Black. Then he wants to cease to be and restarts the cycle. If it does go like that, then "To Your Eternity" becomes an eternal loop of Fushi creating himself who eventually replaces himself and then goes on to create himself again, over an over an over an over an over again.

I thought about that also but so far Fushi doesn't have the ability of time travel (so far), at this stage he effectively turns himself into a "World Tree"

I haven't been able to access the dub for weeks. Crunchyroll only gives me access to the sub for this show which I enjoy so it's not that big of a problem but I've been missing out on Zeno! Also I like the dub's word choice in this conversation a tiny bit better than the sub. I wonder if the man in black is a god.
