Silly videos aside this is actually a useful tool. Not sure how it would hold up over time but it actually does what it's made to do.

@@BeetleBuns You can't make it "easly" because you need to hit it very hard to drive that nail there and if you miss when you holding your nail with your hand then you are in big trouble. It is one thing when you need to drive in only one nail but this is not how it works normaly. In typical situation you need to use many nails to mount something and then chance for harm to your hand is real. For example, you may want to cover a door with sheet metal to make it more burglary-resistant... Looks to me that the guy that was paid to make the promotional video did not have too much expereince with building anything with nails and hammers... so he faked everything for no good reason.
@gonova8412
@gonova8412 Жыл бұрын
@@BeetleBuns you have to hit it straight and really hard. So having something hold it and not hit your hand is one thing and the tool keeps the nail perfectly level which is another. You can do it without it?

This would be a really solid nail driver if it was forged instead of cast from soft steel. I'm sure there are domestically produced ones for 8x the price that are made in that exact way, too. Definitely a great idea, just made of Chinesium like most of the tools in these demos. I will edit this to say for around $15 with shipping it's a solid deal and surprisingly sturdy for being so cheap.

This tool makes a lot of sense when you consider the origin point. Many countries have extreme regulations on even gunpowder and that ram set might not be available for anyone without the proper permits. Look at the home made firearm used to kill the former Japanese PM. Because Japan strictly regulates gunpowder even not just firearms. Most citizens cannot buy it let alone find it to buy. And if Japan is like that.. well I doubt China is any more 'free' when it comes to gunpowder and firearms.
@bilalsadiq1450
@bilalsadiq1450 Жыл бұрын
Plus, not everything that can't be easily hammered needs something with the stopping power of a ram set. For driving multiple nails into concrete or thinner steel, it might just be faster (and cheaper) to use this than to use something that uses explosive propellent.

My cousin does gutters and he came up with something like this in the late 90's. I forget exactly how he used it but I think it was used for when you couldn't reach what ever you were hammering in. Like reaching around a corner, over the roofs edge. Essentially it would let you keep your wrist straight rather than curling it under and struggling to hold the nail.

Personally, if I'm driving long nails and/or nailing at a weird angle, it seems kinda useful having that extra surface area to hit and a support to keep it straight . Maybe also older or disabled DIY/woodworking folks who may not have the coordination or grip to drive, say small panel pins. Same as the tubey guides that slide on a screwdriver bit. Probably not necessary and maybe even more time consuming for a pro, but handy for kid, disabled and older folks.

I have one of these and have used it. It was a gift, because I used to have a toolbox that was nothing but gadget tools, a weird hobby my brother and I both had. I've used it a few times to nail sleepers and such to concrete, and it does absolutely work -- it's easier if the first tap is medium-light. It's slightly easier than using a pair of pliers to hold the concrete nail. It does work as a lightweight hammer, if you don't have an actual hammer with you. It doesn't really work worth much for any of its other functions. I wouldn't bother carrying it around, but as gadget tools go it's about even with the spring-pin Gator socket -- it does work, if you're careful and don't overtax it, but it's a good thing that it's so cheap.

The thing is that a pair of pluers can do the exact same thing, the real factor is the really tough nails. Great video.👍

Great job on the video. Been looking forward to this. Follow along with all of your reaction videos, I like your long format videos as well. Kudos to you on building a KZbin channel on the side while you work your trade during the day.. I thought you should know that you inspire me to make videos that I've always talked about but never did. I'm a Sparky. Thanks for the work you put into these videos. You always bring a laugh on your shorts

Wait, so are you suggesting that if you get the prime hammer and put a 22 pistol up against it, it becomes a DIY ramset? I would very much like to see the lifehack video of that.

If you ever find yourself needing to hammer nails into concrete or steel, just don't. And definitely don't buy a tool that's going to help you do something you shouldn't be doing lol. Ramset is the way to go if you want your nail to go in with 1 clean go and stay put.

Funk I gotta say I love your videos. But the main reason I love them is each time I watch them I feel like you're a good buddy who's house I came over to and after a couple of beers you look at me and say "let's do some fun shit" and this is what we do. You have a great vibe to you and I would happily take your expertise in my boatyard any day

I've never paid attention to it but I wonder if Ramset box advertises how many pound feet of energy they have. Be it the shells or the gun. A 2# sledge has unbelievable energy. Higher than many pistol calibers. A .45 cal 1911 with regular cheap fmj bullets (which penetrate well for a pistol) will not go through 1/8" mild. I have turned so many groundhog silhouette steel targets into funnels but they never poke through. It's weird cause 9mm just pokes holes through them.

You’re hammer swinging isn’t as bad as you’d think, the head on that thing is so tiny it’s hard to get a decent enough swing while also being able get enough force into the nail.

Here, where very hard wood used to be common, builders always use some lighter taps initially, building up the holes and not whack it from the start as it is known to bend the nails.
