My highlight of this interview was how Steve broke down the production differences between Arif mardin and David foster that was game set and match. Respect

I concur with Steve's assessment when comparing Arif and David. You can hear that Arif was more sympathetic and imaginative while supporting the artist/ band, allowing them space to shine, whereas David set his guardrails that the artist had to be contained within. A bit more controlled and structured. Both excellent with their unique temperament, approach and results.

@@scottdorsey8220 appreciate you breaking it down and spot on. ARIF WAS about the juice and the soul in your performance, whereas Foster was going for the over the top strings bells and whistles all grand however both got to the finish line with said artists and acts. Peace

True, so few bands that had magic in the 1970s were able to carry it into the 1980s. Have to blame what the corporate music industry became.

@@FunknstuffNet True, but Steve is correct. David Foster is better with individual artists than bands.. When produced Chicago, they became Peter Cetera's backing band.

around the 13:15 mark Steve mentioned the awesome band that the Brecker Brothers were in called Wings. They were actually called Dreams and did a couple albums in 70 and 71 on Columbia. i can't imagine trying to remember all these names goin way back. Big respect to Steve. Love love loved his playing on Chaka Khan's "Some Love" just filthy. He mentions in another interview that it was Anthony Jackson and not Mark Stevens on bass. That first Chaka album was just classic!! Scott you keep comin with the gems brotha.

So the question I would have asked is then what was the last quintessential AWB record? “Warmer Communications” or “Feel No Fret.”
