This is an excellent video. Very very methodical and interesting. I wish I had found it before I wrote an essay about microtonality in blues during my music studies.

I asked myself today, "wonder if I can play some Turkish folk music by bending microtones" although it would sound sloppy, I was hungry for it. and also for some time, the intonation of blues bends was left an unanswered question in the back of my head. this video was really enlightening, much appreciated.

Very informative - I had been using a lot of these microtones in my blues for years and never really understood why. Now I do. Thank you :)

This is the best video on microtonal blues I've seen yet! In the future, will there be more specific examples of blues songs and which microtonal scales they use?

Hi Stephen! In the next lessons of this series there are many examples of blues phrases for every scale.

This was amazing! Thanks so much for this. I'll be honest though, be sure to include "microtonal" in your thumbnail too and not just the title. I actually didn't click on your video once because I thought it's not what I'm looking for. I only ended up clicking because it was recommended to me again and I happened to read the title. Titles are often skipped when the thumbnails contain text lol, hope that helps! Cheers.

It surprises me that the blue note is considered to be an in-between note, for a dominant chord without the shackles of 12-TET is often quantified as 4:5:6:7. Such a chord on the fourth degree would in fact have a note lower than that of a minor third, not higher. Coincidentally, a note higher than that of a 12-TET minor third is that which is just 16 cents sharper, arguably the true minor third.
