Cool to hear/see that concept of moving a half step up to create tension in the context of a song. It's really simple but something I've never really thought of doing consciously. Seems like I always default to dominant/diminished/altered lines so hopefully it'll work it's way into my playing more. Awesome stuff as always

Its almost easier to just trust it as being all about tension and release, mixed with colorful voicings and voice leading lol. Beyond that I guess I'll have to find out. Man I love your new album! I turned my son onto it. He’s really into music like his dad and wants to create his own. He was trying to guess what software you use. I guessed Ableton Live. And I would love it if you release Elysian on vinyl. I’d buy it in a heartbeat!

I think it's live, yeah - it's running in the background of several of his videos, I believe. Be forewarned though, starting a kid out in Ableton Live is pretty tough, it's quite idiosyncratic

I'm curious what you are thinking harmonically over the slash chord C section of the tune. Are you trying to keep up with the changes or are you just treating that as an outside/no-chord moment? I've always done the later but I always feel like I'm cheating.

I love it when highly capable musicians such as yourself do interpretations of Allan's tunes, and the more original the interpretation is, the more fun it is to listen to. But I have to confess it was a bit of a stretch to hear this particular tune with a four to the floor beat! I'm not sure the original recording even has a single note with an emphasis on the downbeat!
