And so true. If you don't like the court's decisions, pack it until you get a monopoly that swings to your point of view. Never mind the constitution. With the court's first decision, it has been political. Chief Justice Roberts was a strict originalist until he realized his political power. Now he swings like a wind mill and every decision is so narrowly define as to assure future suits and whoever is in power can get the decisions they want.

Or road laws only effectively apply to law abiding people because the criminals won't obey those laws. Or drug laws only effectively apply to law abiding people because the criminals won't obey those laws. When a law exists, you can follow it or not. If you follow it, you are law-abiding. If you do not, that is a crime and you should face consequences as such.
@rohanmodi18083 жыл бұрын
@@nicholassmith7984 no, because most laws prevent things that are inherently wrong. The idea behind banning/restricting guns is that doing so will prevent people from using those guns to do things that are inherently wrong. This argument does hold up because the actual crime that all these laws are trying to prevent is murder/assault, so that is what should be illegal, not simply carrying a gun.
@nicholassmith79843 жыл бұрын
@@rohanmodi1808 Murder and assault already are illegal, and carrying a gun frequently only increases the chances of that happening. Just look at the number of deaths in the US that occur over 'road rage' incidents or petty arguments, or because someone was 'cleaning' their inexplicably loaded gun at a kids party. People are only 'responsible gun owners' until they aren't, at which point people are usually dead who shouldn't be. How is that not inherently wrong? Besides, who/what are you 'defending' yourself against that you need multiple military-grade firearms capable of holding a ridiculous number of bullets and fire them off at an insane rate? The fact is, the US is the only 'developed' nation that has this problem at this scale, meaning the current state of things simply isn't working.

An armed society is a polite society. And if someone who was a law abiding citizen shoots someone for reasons other than necessary defense of self or others, then they need to be arrested and charged. @Anon54387 Жыл бұрын
If someone attacks you, with a gun or a knife or a blunt object, you have the right to defend yourself with a gun. You do not have to sit there and say, well, the courts will deal with it. What the courts will be dealing with is your corpse and a murder trial of your attacker. If anything, something like the reverse should be true. Your attacker was shot in self defense by you with the difference it should be ruled justifiable homicide and you don't face charges. There's an apt saying: Gun control is founded on the dubious theory that somehow a woman being raped then strangled with her own pantyhose is somehow a better outcome than the woman explaining to the police how her would be rapist got that fatal bullet wound. There was a serial rapist operating in my area, but since my state makes it almost impossible to legally carry a gun he was able to rape subsequent women. If even 30% of women carried guns a would be rapist would be less likely to even try, and if he did he'd be far less likely to ever be able to try again. BTW, rape used to earn an offender the death penalty. I think we need to return to that. It so profoundly affects a woman's piece of mind. Not an easy thing to go through.
