If you run a carb on anything especially at altitude do this

I was led to believe those filters were like a pressure release, so the pump doesn't over pressurise the carby, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones

One of the reasons they use the bypass in FI is so the pump would not over heat and guess where it is located. Bypass filters are a good thing in a Jeep you only need 4lb at the carb. Paaul

the aluminum fins can also work in the opposite direction and direct heat to your carb from the exhaust manifold.

Very interesting. I was lucky, my 1943 GPW never vapor locked.

You are in the rite place for vapor lock and have got the rite stuff, their should be an insulator spacer under the carb, if you don't have one get one, if you have an old one get a new one as thick as will fit to keep the heat out of the carb. The heat riser is for keeping it running when cold so if you have an icing problem after a cold start some early morning after a camp out let it run a bit shut the motor off finish your coffee the carb is thawed and your ready for fun. Just my 2 bits. Paul

we found out the vapor lock in our 3B occurs in the carburetor only after shutting down when the engine is hot...we discovered the running vapor lock was occurring at the mechanical fuel pump....when it stalled we quickly got out popped the hood and felt the base of the carburetor and it was cool to the touch but the pump was toasty warm..we heard this is occurring in older rigs due to the modern fuels being too volatile for low psi carburetor applications...we haven't solved it yet...but we are considering an electric fuel pump inline withe the mechanical one.

@@michelle-lz8tg My neighbor drug cj5 over that has ben sleeping for 17 years to get it running what a job now running so I will try to help you with your fuel thing. First I have to ask do you have a bypas filter at your carb? If you don't put one in just like Stan did at the carb that is the top of the fuel line so the vaper or block has to go some where like back to the tank and cool that should solve the problem if it's vaper lock. the cj in my drive way I haven't driven it but have it running after start and at 180 the carb is cool while running as you know their is not a heat riser on the F head so the carb depends on the coolant to keep it from freezing. If you have the bypass and still have the same trouble give the old gal a little of the KIS method It may be something as simple as a condenser if it drives along then dies cools goes then dies. I'm sorry I ramble. Paul
