Not with „Ach du...“ but „Mein lieber Herr Gesangsverein!“ must be my favorite. Also, one that my husband uses: „Himmel, Arsch und Zwirn!“ 😃 It would be a good idea to make a video with expressions that don‘t start with „Ach du...“. I have a friend who uses: „Ach du Schande!“ and „Ach du Schreck!“ in front of her kids, instead of Scheiße, obviously. 😁

I actually never heard about Ach du meine Nase before. I think "my lovely Mr. singing club" would fit in this category, too. "cross pear-tree elder-shrub", or even "cross pouch cement" are also interesting, though more of a curse than a "oh my ..." variant; same goes for "Heaven ass and yarn". Another common one would be "oh you lovely time"

I think that all these curse phrases beginning with "Ach du heilige* ,,, " would originally be curses using the name of God, Jesus ("ach du je") or a Saint, but in Christian religion it is forbidden to swear (perhaps as well in other religions, but I don't know actually). So people changed the curses into something harmless, as "Heiliger Bimbam". And so I think "Heilige Makrele" or "Holy mackerel" is a trivialization of "Holy Mary". - Thank you for this funny yet informative video!

When something is unexpected and extremely hot, I cry out, „Heise Moroni!" I'm sure it's not a German expression. However, it covers the basics. It's also kind of a play on a German phrase. „Er sagte, er heisse Moroni," meaning, "He said his name was Moroni," or "He said he's hot chestnuts." I think I'm going to start using „Auch du meine Nase!" Sounds so fun! Oh yeah! Traveling down the rabbit hole! I get it! And the story about Lieschen! You got me good!
