Ugh…for all its shortcomings, you cannot watch these last two episodes and tell yourself The Legend of Korra is a bad show. It’s not just the finale, either - this show has so many great moments. Honestly, while ATLA’s finale was better from a technical standpoint, I think I enjoy LOK’s finale more. I know this is technically the newer show, but between the two, this feels like the older sibling that took all the neglect and trauma so the younger one would be happier. And seeing so much growth in the characters (Asami forgiving her dad, Verick and Juli getting married, Korra using compassion and patients to neutralize Kovira), and feeling the genuine love and tenderness the writers and animators put into the show’s conclusion despite the doubtless cruel and unfair decisions made for them by executive suits…it’s almost like watching that older sibling shedding their baggage and growing up into a happy, healthy person. Korra and Asami's final moment was masterful in the art of subtlety. They mirror Varrick and Zhu Li's holding hands at their wedding. For some, the scene clicks instantly, while others miss it completely. Sadly, the creators didn't have enough liberty to portray Korrasami like they initially wanted, but there are definitely some subtle moments that many fans picked upon between them (specially the fans with similar experiences as Korra and Asami of finding out their preferences).

I agree that having Korra losing the connection to the past lives can be a good thing. Having the wisdom of thousands of years of former avatars is a huge resource, but it can create a feeling of being beholden to their opinions. I think that is why they, always, in the past kept their advice vague. Like when Aang was asking former Avatars what to do with Ozai. They gave him advice on how to see his path and make a decision. None of them told him he had to kill Ozai. He just interpreted that way at first. They just told him to be decisive, proactive, seek justice, not revenge, and be aware of the sacrifices he may need to make.

Something most people don’t understand about Yangchen’s advice was that she didn’t realise the difference in contexts for her and Aang; as the last airbender alive, he alone needed to carry their people’s values and if he discarded that they would have been truly gone; the ideology that Ozai espoused of strength would have been indirectly validated if Aang couldn’t stop him without killing him and especially if he did it… Of all the past lives, her advice probably hurt the most for that reason.

The crazy thing is that Korra and Asami's relationship goes back all the way to season 1. On some level they always knew that they were going to end up together. In season 1 we see Korra SO JEALOUS of Asami, and she starts "insulting" Asami when Jinora and her sister start asking about Mako, but all of her insults are literally just compliments. She's like Mako is "into that prissy, beautiful, elegant, rich girl." XD And then there's the race Asami take Korra on, and it seems like THAT'S where things start to click for Korra, and she starts to realize how she really likes Asami. And then in Season 2 where the two of them are dunking on Mako, and they're both realizing that neither of them care THAT MUCH about Mako, and Korra's like "I've never had a girlfriend before"...... By Season 3 Korra an Asami are almost inseparable. When Korra wants to use herself as bait, everyone just rolls with it, except Asami who's like "What? Hell no. Are you kidding? How do you expect me to be okay with that?" Then when Korra is broken Asami personally takes care of her all the time. Offering to talk or do ANYTHING Korra wants. When Korra leaves to go recover in the Southern Water Tribe, Asami is the only one who offers to go with her, essentially literally ready to go all the way to the ends of the Earth just to be with Korra. When Korra stops talking to EVERYONE ELSE she still keeps writing to Asami. Asami telling Korra things aren't the same without her. Korra confessing her personal weakness and frailty - something she's unlikely to admit to anyone else - to Asami, and telling Asami how she's the only one she feels able to open up to. When they FINALLY get back together Asami almost immediately has Korra blushing - which is something that....basically never happens. etc etc etc It's honestly amazing how they built this relationship up throughout the series in a way that's perfectly logical and believable and actually cute as hell, but SO subtle that you can almost completely miss it if you basically blink at the wrong moments. Things that are SO IMPORTANT, but they can seem like nothing if you're not paying attention to the context.
@jamesfoster96138 ай бұрын
...and then they kissed! Literally, they were supposed to kiss in the show but Nickelodeon wouldn't allow it at the time so in the comics they start immediately after this and they kissed as they enter the spirit world. It's a beautiful evolution to their relationship, from day 1 to here, and why I kept referencing how wonderful and strong their RELATIONSHIP is in the comments here. Kya is also canonically queer, and helps Korra and Asami navigate how they come out when they return.

You need to remember that when this episode aired it was still illegal to get married if you were lgbt+ in 14 states in America. This episode broke barriers and allowed future animated shows depict lgbt+ relationships even more. It was a small first step.

Can I just complement how well Hiroshi’s sacrifice was done? In just a couple of episodes, we have enough of him to believe that he’s truly come to a better place in himself, and the time in prison helped him; like, he’s not suddenly OK with benders or anything, but he’s aware that his hatred led him to nearly kill his own daughter - the one person he still loved - and that revenge wasn’t worth it. And the moment it becomes clear they can’t penetrate the Colossus and escape… he says goodbye and saves Asami, his last moments successful in that and in doing what was needed for everyone else to stop Kuvira. “I love Republic City, and I would do anything to save her.” Is he talking about the city, or his daughter?

Also, my final conclusion on Varrick: he and Tony Stark are what we wish the ones in our world were, that they grow out of their self-aggrandisement and become net benefits to the world.

Congratulations on finishing ATLA and LoK, you did the thing! Avatar The Last Airbender is absolutely brilliant and The Legend of Korra is one hell of a sequel. The shows has so many great stories, amazing characters, interesting antagonists and loads of wonderful moments. Some will stay with me for the rest of my life. 40 years from now, I might hear a few notes of "Leaves from the vine" and start crying. And "Do the thing" will always be a great line, though I'm not sure if I'd use it to ask for someones hand in marriage.....or maybe I will. And...obviously.....I'll never forget Iroh. I hope to be more like him when I'm older. Though I'm more likely to be like old Toph. Anyway, it's been a pleasure watching you react to the two shows, tears and all.

I love this series a lot and I watched every reaction from the first episode of the original series to the final one of this series. It helped me relive my own feelings and I was excited to see you watch certain scenes that I had cherished - like Zukko switching sides, Iroh returning in Korra's season, Varrick's growth, Korra's spiritual and personal growth as she embraced her roles as the Avatar, etc. The Avatar series is still my favorite cartoon series to this day. It was so powerful that it never gets old for me... Thanks for checking it out and I'm glad you loved it.

I really enjoyed LOK and this reaction series. I loved the role technology played in this series and the whole Chinese/steampunk aesthetic. Like ATLA, the music was just beautiful. I would have liked to have seen Korra reconnect with past Avatars but maybe that's an emotional beat for a future series.

They do the thing ... the creators had wanted to make it more clear, but they had to be careful about what they included or they would have been cancelled. There are a bunch of scenes that if you look back on them, you can see hints at a romantic relationship that is hidden just enough to get by the network rulers...

The moment Korra saved Kuvira’s life was the exact moment she accomplished her journey to be humble and compassionate. That moment of being selfless always gave me chills. Although I was disappointed with the loss of the past lives. I think it was needed for Book 4. It made it more relatable in real life with people with depression and PTSD where you feel alone and don’t have access to past lives. In order to feel better we need to talk to our loved ones and ask for help (when Korra asked Toph for help). Book 4 touched my heart because I suffer from mental illness and the writers did a great job with that story.

KORRASAMI NATION RISE!! I didnt keep up w korra when it was airing, but this was HUGE on the internet when it happened and it peaked my interest when it did.
@michaelthomas97909 ай бұрын
Korra and Asami are together at the end, it was the start of their relationship as confirmed by the creators. This is as far as they could go at the time, but god did I cry like a baby seeing LGBT representation. I had just come out, and seeing this show be brave enough to even show that…. God it was magical. I’m so glad you watched this series and I cannot wait for the day that they create the next avatar. It seems every avatar has had to deal with the problems left by the previous one. Roku didn’t stop sozin, aang had to stop the fire nation. Aang ran from his responsibilities and the air nation parished (not that he could’ve stopped them), Korra brought back the air nation. The biggest mistake Korra made was getting her connection to the past avatars severed, I’m almost certain the next avatar will have to fix that. And I cannot wait.

Thank you ❤ PS: Round of applause for our MVP Asami. She really got so much bullshit in this series, she more than deserved to get the girl in the end 😂

I've been watching your Avatar journey all the way through, and I have to say you've been my favorite reacter, hands down! You engage with the material so well, and are so insightful! I'm glad to have shared this journey with you! Regarding the books, I have a maybe suggestion? Maybe you could do a review series in a similar format to your episode reactions? Like, read three or four chapters, treat that as one "episode" of the book, and give your thoughts afterwards? Not sure that'd work for how you read, but it would allow us to continue your Avatar journey with you into the novels! EDIT: Also, Korrasami forever! I love them so much!

I agree with the past lives bit. With the new books and comics they’re moving away from the past lives and focusing on the idea that your friends and enemies are more helpful and insightful for learning to overcome current issues. Which is the crux of this series. The current Team Avatar will always be the Avatar’s greatest strength and knowledge, not their past lives.

The good news is that Avatar Studios is putting out more animated movies starting next year, so we all have something to look forward to. (And I don't hate the live action, so some of us will have future seasons of that as well).

fun fact: before season 4 released the creators teased that we'd learn more about Varrick's backstory in the season. Weeks or months of speculation that we'd be getting some big flashback that provides some dramatic backstory that shaped him, and it turned out they were just referring to his inane ramblings about the ostrich and the circus

Seeing someone experience it for the first time has reminded me just how great Legend of Korra still is. It is just a shame that production had so many issues because of Nickelodeon (even the final scene they wanted to make Korra and Asami's romance more obvious but couldn't). I'm really glad you enjoyed it! Here's hoping this team can get to do another series with more faith from the execs

Republic City is just the capital of the United Republic of Nations, which is the actual country. The show doesn't really showcase much of the rest of the United Republic, it's usually only just Republic City itself that gets shown in the series. For reference, Makapu Village, which is right next to the volcano Mt. Makapu and is where Aunt Wu (the foretuneteller in ATLA) lived, is located within the territory of the United Republic of Nations. Another one is the former ruined city of Taku, which is that abandoned hill/mountain city shown in ATLA that had the herbalist living at the very summit of the city (the one who helped Aang heal the sick Katara and Sokka by sucking on frozen frogs). There is also Senlin Village, which was the village in ATLA that got attacked by the spirit Hei Bai. There are several other locations featured in ATLA that are also part of the United Republic of Nations during the time of Avatar Korra.

I don't know if you're into those, but there are also comics that expand a bit on both the last airbender and the legend of korra. Everyone of them is considered Canon. For The Legend of Korra it takes of right after the end of season 4 with the spirit world trip etc.... If you want to know more about how it all turns out. Idk if you're gonna read those. I think the avatar youtube account has the 1st Korra comic on their youtube channel.

what a journey 🥹 this channel has become one of my favorites because of how genuine and thoughtful you are during your reactions, and this final episode was certainly no exception! the legend of korra is one of my all time favorite shows, and korra is one of my favorite characters, and i loved being able to follow along as you watched her journey. her character development is just top notch! and i might be in the minority for this but i thought i’d throw it out there anyway, but i would 100% watch a book review for the avatar novels. they’re criminally underrated and deserve so much more hype! i love hearing peoples’ thoughts and reactions to them. i’m aware this is a video reaction channel, but just know if you wanted to talk about the books as well, you’d definitely get an audience, at least from me 💗

I have a different set/intensity of emotions, but I still appreciate your emotions to the show. It’s so smooth how you kindly told the haters to back off, cause you’re right! That’s what we love about you. You’re fierce, but you balance it with empathy. Some Avatar stuff forreal, no wonder you love this show. Personally I’ve always liked Korra more, I found her more relatable. And I’m really happy to say that I think you did it justice. Not expecting Avatar, but allowing it to be its own show. Tysm for all of this wonderful content ❤

I always kind of thought that losing the past lives made sense. Every 10,000 years Vatu and Rava fight and just like a lot of the themes in avatar, it's cyclical. So it makes sense to me that as part of the avatar cycle, it also resets every 10,000 years. Like Wan was the first avatar of the last cycle and now Korra is the first of this new one.

This was a great reaction, sad to see it come to an end! I think I've followed your reactions for about two years now? And LoK has been my favourite reaction series so far just because it's such a wonderful series. The animation, the AMAZING music, the subtleties in the writing and evolution of the show from season to season, it was all a really awesome and fantastic ride! And yeah, Korra and Asami ARE a thing! There were a lot of hints towards it throughout season 4, but the writers weren't able to convey it as clearly and overtly as they wanted to because of restrictions put in place by Nickelodeon. How the finale was handled was a big deal at the time for pushing things forward for LGBTQ+ representation in animated media. If/when you read the LoK graphic novels, the relationship between Asami and Korra is explored, handled super well, and you get an idea of what they would have wanted to show in the final season had Nickelodeon allowed them to do so. Loved that you really enjoyed the series, it really is a great and unforgettable ride. Onto the next one!

so i watched 3 channels react to Atla, and Korra at about the same time video output wise. Yours is by far my favorite, the way you pick up on what's going on and even predicting things is great. Your emotions add that little extra to the experience, never change in that regard.

- I never see it mentioned, but I love the continuity that lead to the new spirit portal. The weapon used energy from the vines of the spirit wild, the spirit wild was created by Vaatu in season 2 during the final battle and were made from Vaatu's own energy. Vaatu's main attack was an energy blast that was exactly what the spirit vine cannon fired, down to the same sound effect. In the battle between Avatar Wan and Vaatu, it was revealed that Vaatu was the one who created the original spirit portals, "IT WAS I WHO BROKE THROUGH THE DIVIDE THAT SEPARATED THE PLANE OF SPIRITS FROM THE MATERIAL WORLD". When Korra went into the Avatar state to shield Kuvira from the energy blast, we had a massive collision of both Raava and Vaatu's power, creating the new spirit portal, probably much in the way the original ones were made while the two were battling. They never highlight it or really talk about it. A great moment of "show not tell". Thank you for the reaction series !!! | : ] '
