I love how simple the system is. Other rules can get so complicated, and that's NOT fun - for me.Very fast moving, which is something I feel is extremely important in modern era battles. Fast flowing, giving the feel of modern combat. The simple dice mechanic takes good care of soooo many variables for us.

I agree, and that's why I liked the rule set from Bolt Action!. Once you've understood the basics your able to play a game without going over rule after rule in the book. Just the quick sheet close by and your good : )

Hello Martthesling, 1. You roll to hit, 3+ on a D6 to which you add or subtract modifiers depending on the distance, cover, inexperience etc... 2. Then you roll the hits to see the casualties. Depending on the defenders experience you roll 3+ inexperience 4+ regular 5+ veteran. But when you roll 6 you can reroll the die and on another 6 the attacker can choose the casualty. For example, you could choose to kill of the NCO and thus cause a permanent pin to the squad. Hope this helps : )

Great video explaining in plain terms the mechanics of the game. I have been looking at Bolt Action as a rules set for small skirmish level games for some time now, and based upon these vids, I am even more tempted to splash out and get it. My preference at this time is THW's NUTS for this level of game, it gives a little more 'meat on the bones' for the feel of this style of game, of course only my humble opinion! All the same I am thoroughly enjoying watching your very good videos, keep it up

Awesome video, highly professional, easy to follow, highly polished, thank you for sharing.

It would have 1 permanent pin. In the case of the Germans, they have a special national rule that enables you to roll to replace the NCO (thus avoiding the permanent pin)

Thank you Ethan. I know it was a trivial thing with the grammar and most people would just shoot back an insult. I look forward to watching more of your great videos!

Thanks for these videos Ethan. Really appreciate them as someone thinking of getting into BA. May I just point out one thing. Dice is the plural, die is the singular. Dices is not a word.

I don't see permanent pin marker for loss of a squad's NCO anywhere in the rules. I do see a permanent -1 to morale (pg41). A permanent pin marker is more severe, as the squad would have to pass a morale check on every activation.
@funwithmodels112 жыл бұрын
Thanks, as for part 5, I'll cover the shooting mechanics between tanks (it'll be a shorter vid... less boring then part 4, I hope). I just have hearing my voice...
@Umbraldancer2 жыл бұрын
Just to clarify, dead NCO isnt a permanent pin its just -1 morale. Now I see this vid is quite old and rules may have changed so if any one new is also looking up rules just be aware of this.

You need a 6 on the "to wound" followed by another 6. You would get to choose two. Thanks,

Hey Viv, what's good about Force on Force.? Most confusing rules I have ever read. How about doing a similar vid to Ethan's so I can learn how to play?
@funwithmodels112 жыл бұрын
I like the shooting mechanic of Bolt Action! because its simple and fast paced. I agree of some similarities with WH40k, but that's normal since Rick Priestley and Alessio Calvatore are the authors. Don't dismiss the pinning aspect of it. This leads to some interesting situations in the game, for example having a sherman tank sitting around doing nothing because the crew is scared shitless. I hope you still give it a try : )
@RubbishInRubbishOut12 жыл бұрын
Ahhh, so there it is. Neither and original idea between them ... have you seen Rick's Gates of Antares - nothing but a heavy borrowed Star Gate SG1 theme. Anyway, not here to bash those guys ... I'm sure I will try the rules out, like I said, there are some interesting mechanics to far.

If the roll to hit is higher then 6, you'll need what is called 7. For all 6's you get on the first roll, you'll need to get 6's again when you reroll those. (also called the impossible shot) Hope this helps : )

quality as always Ethan keep them coming,can see where Viv is coming from im not a 40k fan mechanics wise but im going to treat this as stand a alone game and as i don't play 40k its not going to feel same ish 2 me,will be playing force on force as well but this will be my WW2 rule set,already looking forward to the next installment bud :)

First off these videos have been very helpful breaking down the rules for my friends and myself since we are fairly new. Coupke questions i wanted to ask you about pinning. 1. Once a unit`s NCO has been discarded and tbe following turn they are down to the one permanent pin, do they still require a morale check? 2. I picked up Imperial Japan, and the fanatic rule has me a bit confused. I understand that they dont take a morale check until the last model, does this also include checking morale due to pjn markers?

if you can take a pin off by any order, than wouldn't the Rally order be useless?

Hi there, thanks for the video very helpful..But can you go over the pinned and rally paragraph on the bottom of pg 22 of the main rule book. I get the discard of the pin marker because you roll equal or under the troop quality, as in your video, but when does the latter part of the paragraph come into play please.plus an additional D6 pin marker etc
@stevesingley37179 жыл бұрын
forry nz Immediately. The squad uses its action for the turn to discard d6 pins. They also get to discard a pin for passing the morale check to see if they actually follow the rally order, effectively getting rid of d6+1 pins. If they fail the morale check to rally they just go down.

could you please tell me briefly the difference in play styles for the main factions?
@TreasonousBastard11 жыл бұрын
It matters more what units you decide to have in your army but, generally: -Germans are better at using machine guns and don't get that NCO-loss penalty; have good tanks; I'd say slightly on the defensive side, unless you use a lot of elite options or a fully elite platoon/company, in which case they become slightly offense-oriented -Americans are mobile because they can move and fire without penalty, and can have free air support; maneuver-for-advantage-oriented I guess -British have free (long-range i.e. off-board) artillery support; probably the most balanced army in style -Soviets can have more massive numbers of infantry (they get a free inexperienced squad); also pretty balanced; lots of heavy guns if you want them -Japanese infantry is almost impossible to stop by pinning and is very well-suited for charging into close-quarters combat; very offensive army; bad at dealing with tanks as a balancing factor -France and other "minor" allied factions (e.g. Belgium) are less likely to be able to take the first action in a turn but get various free support units (France gets a howitzer, Belgium an anti-tank gun, etc.); they are generally defensive in style The "minor" Axis nations book is pretty new and I'm not sure what their special rules are yet. But you can probably tell from the above that whatever you nation/list choose, you can usually change it almost completely by your own unit choice, e.g. you could make a very offensive, elite French platoon/company if you really wanted. I'd say Imperial Japan is the only option with special rules and units that push them very hard towards playing a certain way, though they could start off a game playing defensively and then make use of the "banzai" rules at the last minute as an option there.

these shooting rules (aside from the 'exploding dice') are very similar to 40k ... a little disappointing :( However, the video was very well done! We'll see how the rest of the mechanics pan out, but at the moment, IMO not sure if this rule set is the one for me. There are some things I like ... so maybe I'll take the bits I like, and the bits from Force on Force I like and mish-mash my own WW2 rules :)
