Respectfully (and i dont know if anyone reads these), Furiosa cutting off her map arm is a significant moment for her character because she is forced to choose survival in that moment over her dream of returning home.

I think why comedic actors turned dramatic is more convincing than the reverse is because as a comedian, you already have to have an inmate sense of timing. There's a whole method to it that comes so naturally whereas actors have to train more for that. Many comedians call it "the blue harvest"

The Elsa Patacki thing I'm glad you honed in on it but they do that with so many minor characters throughout Furiosa where there's just an implied backstory and you see them in further points of development later. Toejam, The 'Octoboss', and that little lackey guy Dementus bosses around all have a lot of subtle storytelling around them.

I mean Return of the Jedi and even A New Hope don't stand up super well to me on rewatch now. There's good bits in all of the movies, they pioneered VFX, and were very influential on pop culture, but there's so much better stuff out there to consume. I'd say taken as a whole maybe 10% of the Star Wars franchise is legitimately good, and that's including pre-Disney expanded universe which was just as hit or miss. There just wasn't much quality control, the comic books were cheap and poorly drawn, most of the games are trash...
@JesseMaurais6 ай бұрын
@@SuzakuX I agree with that. Hope was the right movie for its time but is not timeless. Empire on the other hand is a legitimately good movie. Return's B plot is not good but the Luke story arc concludes in a satisfying way. They are certainly better together than apart with Empire being the tent pole holding the entire thing up. Nothing since then has surpassed even the worst of the trilogy though.

SPOILERS!! Hey James and Maso, I really enjoyed Furiosa, surprised you didn't talk about the peach seed that came up regularly in the movie. That was so thematic and poignant. Movie starts with young-young furiosa taking the peach from a tree in The Green place that felt so biblical like taking the fruit from the tree of knowledge and knowledge of this fruit could lead the Savages back to this green place which is why they must be stopped. She keeps that seed with her as one memory that she has of her home other being the map on her hand. She had to cut off her arm to escape as it was the one that had got damaged and Dementus hung her up on that arm. The map that was her connection to getting back home was gone and only thing left was the peach seed which she used to plants on Dementus. The seed was given to her by mother with the promise to keep the green place alive. I loved how vague the ending is. she might have just killed him and used his remains as means to try and grow another green place(maybe?) before she realizes that it isn't and she must escape with the bride. Atleast it's hopeful. Keeping him alive and using her last memory of her mother to seek vengence against the guy that killed her to exact life long torture shows that she got consumed by her revenge and becoming just like Dementus predicted.
@MrHendrix176 ай бұрын
Dementus viewed Furiosa as his child and children are sometimes referred to as the fruit of ones loins. Dementus was only really capable of destruction and he'd change his personality or betray his closest allies or give away his heir if he saw an opportunity to further his goals so he believed that when Furiosa hunted him down she shared his malice and ruthlessness and his idea that hope is worthless but in the end Dementus ends up giving her the seed of hope that inspired her to free the wives, the end very literally showed the fruit of his loins being hope.

Spoilers for Furiosa So I really liked Jack. Not just as a character, but also I think it kinda plays into the idea of "we're hearing these stories retold as oral tradition and these are the folk heroes of the wastes,". I could see it being that as time goes on and the stories are retold his role just gets attributed to Max eventually. Kinda like in real life how it's suspected that stories of multiple different outlaws and folk heroes have been rolled into the legend of Robinhood over time.

@@li-limandragon9287 I'm months late to this, but keep in mind that 10-year old(or whatever) Furiosa had no idea that Immortan Joe was a serial rapist; probably all she saw was a "safe" place in the Citadel that was clearly well defended and offered a better refuge than being part of Dementus' traveling motorcycle caravan.
