AH! I remember other things have been on my intinerary when I have planned trips to the UK, but now, especially with what seems to be an increased interest in the motorcar, I must make the pilgrimage here! I was just reading how important the survival of ailing Jaguar Land Rover is for the UK car industry, with JLR being one of two (the other being Nissan in Sunderland) mass production manufacturers left in the country actually building their vehicles there. If its next incarnation is unsuccessful, that could lead to the domino effect that befell the Australian Car Industry as Toyota, Ford, and GM Holden all stopped producing vehicles there within a very short time of each other. The importance of this museum conveys the magnificence of British cars of the past, and should provide inspiration to the country that "we did it for over a hundred years, and we will continue marching onwards. Thanks as always, Matt!

Royal Mail did use 50 reliant supervans on a trial when the Morris minor van was going to go out of production The British motor museum decided on a replica after nearly all museums have yet another trotter replica...which I think I agree with it's way over done now

Matt, the first Ford factory in the UK was set up in Trafford Park, Manchester in 1911. You have mispronounced the late great Giovanni Michelotti's name. It is pronounced "mick-elotti". Don't worry, I did the same for a lot of years myself. I visited Gaydon in 2011 for the 30th anniversay of the Triumph Acclaim. They even brought out the last Acclaim (and last Triumph car) that come off the production line which was in CD trim and had the Triomatic transmssion which was basically the Hondamatic by another name. I still have the photos I took. Maybe I should make a video of them. The interior on that silver Metro looks more like teracotta than orange. A shame there's no MK2 Cavalier in the Vauxhall section. It was the prime example of GM's J-car platform. I've had 5 MK2 Cavs during the 1990s and they're now pretty much all but gone.

The 9X was canned by George Turnbull as it had a totally new untested engine which was designed to be completely compact and management had already had their fingers burned tooling up whole new factories for the Stag V8 and Maxi E series and the coffers where dry for another... Instead they turned what little funds they had left to the Marina..to get some profit brought in

Sort of lost interest once you got into the 60's and beyond stuff as grew up with that era, the concept and prototypes were brilliant and a shame they never got to production. Dad owned 50's into 70's (BMC and Triumph mostly). Cut my mechanic's teeth on them, my fingers went where his wouldn't fit. Well remember his 1938 Ruby when aged about 2/3 in early 50's and digging out shrapnel from various places after the house was bombed in 41, luckily the garage survived just. Two other homes also got bombed (one a V2 which took almost the whole Street, ground shock) but the Austin survived them all. He told me it only covered less than 100 mile during the duration of the war (3 home leaves in the whole war). Would have been an MOT failure (big time) if still around when they came in. Traded for a 49 MM in 53 (first of 6). The 30's post vintage is the period that I have the most fondness for (Riley) and the late 20's. Great cars to drive as one is connected to them which doesn't happen with modern cars.
