It's about time we adopted the Kei regulations here. It encourages innovation and imagination leading to perfect pint-size commuter transport. Imagine a city buzzing with these instead of bloated, ugly SUVs with only one passenger. I've rarely wanted anything so much.

sorry to expose your flawed logic but you can only get one passenger in this. But as you suggest it is not ugly and unnecessarily huge.

@@thebonesperhaps I worded it badly. One passenger i.e. occupant. I bought an Aygo which is pretty much Kei dimensions, besides the engine capacity and it's perfect for most needs. It's also a lot of fun getting four people in it but perhaps not for too long😁

have you seen the size of the average healthy Japanese as compared to the typical chicken nugget munching Brit? I'm convinced they buy SUV's as it makes them feel less self conscious! Plus there is more space to carry more food back from Aldi.

the S07A engine is three cylinder, not two. Three cylinder is the norm for most modern Kei cars.

I've a '91 Beat here in the UK. Had it about 10 years. Reliable, fun and a head turner. At 30 plus yrs even has a/c. Came runner up in its class in a national show. At some stage I'll have an S660. Looks a hoot. Can't understand why never here? Oh well.... Very few mods needed. Forgot... the Beat has buttons in English. Speed is km/h, fuel capacity in litres (20) and many labels in Japanese to warn etc. Radio frequency finishes where ours starts but its stereo is something else. I bet very few know where its fuel flap release is! An MOT garage had to ask me one time. Guessing the S660 won't disappoint at all.

Imported one. CVT high spec S660 which absolutely flies. At lights it outsprints almost everything. Amazing for a 658 cc engine. It's really economical. It's sport button turns the dash red and also disables the idle stop. Mine has a G-Force meter on the dash with a turbo boost gauge plus a braking display. The G-Force meter indicates that there is a risk of your neck getting injured as it corners on rails. I had a MPH gadget fitted which is useful. I've other desirable cars but this is truly amazing. The Honda main dealer I use are all over it when I take it in. It's service interval isn't long plus it is important to change the oil as the engine is tiny. I reckon it's the closest road legal go-kart there is. Great video.
@johndavid2054

I discovered in the manual that engaging the sport mode it switches off the idle stop. Unlike my other cars there's no physical button for it.

Great fun, brings back memories of my Beat. Just a couple of points, the engine is a three cylinder unit, and I'm pretty certain the rear brakes aren't drums - given the weight distribution, the rear brakes will do most of the work (or they certainly did in the Beat - judging by the relative accumulation of brake dust on the front & rear wheels, and the fact that I drove it for 10 years on the same set of front pads).
@nygelmiller5293

To Karl Adams: glad to hear that you had a BEAT! I haven't actually ridden in one, but I like the idea! How many cylinders did it have?
@KarlAdamsAudio
@KarlAdamsAudio 3 жыл бұрын
@@nygelmiller5293 The Beat had a naturally aspirated 3 cylinder SOHC 12-valve engine, the E07A - fitted with individual throttle bodies (dubbed 'MTREC' by Honda). Power output is exactly the same as the S660 (due to keicar regulations) but peak torque is considerably lower & doesn't arrive till 7,000 rpm, so you really need to keep the revs up even in normal driving.

I do adore a kei car. Thanks for testing this gem. It's so easy to overlook flaws on a kei car because you're too bust smiling. It's just a shame so few are officially sold here. It would be great to get a Suzuki Alto Turbo RS, or a Suzuki Hustler. The biggest flaw to overlook is actually working on these cars. Things are so tightly packed, you will be swearing even with the smallest maintenance job. We need more kei cars, bring on the era of electric kei cars. Someone convert a Mazda R360 to electric, or a Subaru 360 that would be so wonderful and cute.

Those type door handles are on a Supercar, not sure which one tho'. Remember the Suzuki Cappacino and at the time the whole Kei car thing seemed only fit for Japan, given the limited space. Now our cars are so bloated, road space is a premium, they make total sense. Look so much fun to drive, bet it felt like a go-cart. Think we should have learned a thing or two from Kei car design, maybe it would have meant less bloating

This is just the most lovely little sports car. Great design inside and out, shows that the Japanese don't view size- and displacement-limits necessarily as restrictions. At the rear, I notice a certain similarity with the CR-Z. I get why Honda didn't sell the S660 in Europe - the target audience would probably be as minuscule as the car itself - but still, we're all the poorer for it.

I've always loved Japanese cars. I've owned Toyota, Daihatsu, Mazda, Honda and Suzuki vehicles and rarely had any problems with them. For Japanese cities the Kei cars make so much sense and I have to say that they are also sensible for many large cities around the world. I'm Australian but living in Mindanao Philippines. I don't drive here (Filipino traffic is crazy and they drive on the wrong side of the road) but they would make a lot of sense here.

Nice Camera work - got a very good perspective of the car - could have almost been in the car with you - well done. I can't understand why Honda did not upscale this car to compete with the MX5 - it's stunning!. A bigger boot and better roof option to accommodate a quick up/down like the MX5 Convertible - it could be the new S2000 as an S1000 S1500 SXXX and give Mazda some grief. Maybe the Boyz at Honda HQ are working on it .. fingers crossed. Currently driving an ND2 MX5 2.0Lt GT RF - The MX5 needs some open roof competition.

I wonder what the emissions charge would be, are they based on how much a car pollutes or just a flat fee. Did you get to drive it with the roof on, or was that not an option? From the dash camera angle it looks like it'd be a tight squeeze

I wonder how this car compares to a Lotus Elise, MG TF or a Matra Murena. Build quality wise it would obviously win hands down, being Japanese.

Honda, reliable ,built quality good, easy to work on ,a bit tight doing a cam belt otherwise fine.

This car has 4 wheel disc brakes, has a 3 cylinder engine, not 2 and these "humps" at the rear, are called buttresses. Did you do any preparation, before you got in front of the camera?.
