Love the final thoughts at the end of the video and marked in the info box! Thanks for showing this game! Its a must-have for me!

Hello Rahdo! It is always a pleasure to see your gameplay! 👍🏻

Have to admit I still do love 'simple' and elegant games the best. There has been more thought process and idea drafting in those kind of games. On the other hand, they tend to look less impressive on the table, but do feel Furnace has counts of both of those segments. So kudos to Ivan.

@18:17 - the rules say to cut the deck at the beginning of every round, precisely to prevent this (knowing one card that will come out next round)... “At the beginning of the round the 1st player takes the Company deck, randomly cuts it to shuffle the top card in, and then deals a row of cards with the basic side up.”

good catch! fixed now :)

A nice simple auction on top of an interesting engine building game - I've been longing for something new in this complexity/depth range, and Furnace appears to deliver. Thanks for the Rundown, Richard!

Love the production chain idea. Reminds me of Oh My Goods! Thanks for sharing this game.
@RedEyedGhost14 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but here you'll probably get to run those production chains more than just the once! It's a Wonderful World has that same kind of feel if you haven't checked that out already. Furnace feels like a cross between that and Keyflower to me.

the upgrade concept of buildings reminds me also of Keyflower.

that bidding mechanic is so cool!!!

This is the type of game I love above anything else. Streamlined, few pieces, relatively short playtime and some depth. I don't mind elegant dummy player systems at all so am glad the 2p experience is solid.

Someday I'll go back and watch all your videos, but the few I see every once in a while for a game I want are always great. Thank you for also calling out that the game needs more diversity character wise! It's not something I often hear from people in the board game community, so it was nice to see you push for it.
@rahdo Жыл бұрын
thank you. i'm especially happy that i did it with this game because i was told by the publisher that it led to more diversity in the player characters showing up in the expansion! :)
@bachstreetboi Жыл бұрын
@@rahdo that's amazing! Someone wanted to give me this game as a trade for another game in my collection, but glad to know that! I might pick up the expansion then :)

I find it funny when you talk about the "Long Game" because this game is so tight and short.
@RedEyedGhost14 жыл бұрын
Yep, this looks really good. Hopefully they get a US publisher soon.

@14:19: The fourth card from the left should be 1 iron -> 4 coal, not 4 points, right? At least it's the same symbol as the 2nd card, where he was compensated with 2 coal

did you turn on the Klingon subtitles as instructed by Rahdo at the start of the video?

Hi rahdo. I loved your rundown and i loved this game. But isn't it too close to London? As somebody who already has London, plays it and loves it, would u recommend buying furnace?
@rahdo2 жыл бұрын
we'll they're both engine building games about era of industrialization, but one is a tight, fast auction game (with a twist that sometimes i want to lose what i'm bidding for) and the other is a a bigger and more epic feeling card drafting game with interesting passive interaction (when i discard something to pay for something else, i'm potentially giving you the perfect thing you need). so i love both and keep both! :)

Now I think this one can take Res Arcana off my wishlist. Does this give players a similar experience without the take that?
@rahdo4 жыл бұрын
interesting. i have to stress, the engines you build in this game are super simple... the true joy comes from the auction and the enforced activation order of the existing cards. so you don't exactly "do" as much in this game as you do in RA, but in spite of that i would say you might very well have just as much fun. :)
@Kamenaka4 жыл бұрын
I’ve played Res a few times and even with an “aggressive” setup there are so many ways to defend that it feels gentler than you would think

yes i saw that. i didn't delete that thread you were (though i have deleted some others where posters were being rude / aggressive). i can only assume whoever posted the first comment must have deleted theirs, which autokills all followups...

Maybe I am alone in this, but I misheard you at the very beginning of this video. Logically speaking, I know that the English captions are correct, and you say "... today Rahdo runs down Furnace, but before I get going please turn your subtitles on...". However, no matter how many times I listen to it, I hear you say "Rahdo runs down Furnace, but F*** it, go on, please turn your subtitles on...". Just curious whether I am the only person to mishear that lol. Anyway, thanks for the video!

Oh, it has a third automated player in two player games? That's a big no from me then. :(
@conillet2 жыл бұрын
I thought so as well, but it turns out that all the automated player does is place some random bids (without actually getting cards or resources). The slowdown of game-play is minimal, and a two-player game is still very enjoyable (and also a good way to practice).
