“Furniture for a Body’s Every Whim”. The Age of Historicism in Russia. 1820s - 1890s.

From 11 August 2018, the State Hermitage will hold the exhibition “Furniture for a Body’s Every Whim”. It illustrates the Age of Historicism in Russia. It is devoted to the development of cabinet-making between the 1820s and 1890s, when in the wake of Europe Russia saw the singular all-embracing style of Classicism give way to a fascination with the art of different countries and peoples from the past known as the age of Historicism.
